Electricity Saving Tips: How You Can Reduce Energy Bills At Home

December 31, 2010
By

Year after year, you’ll notice that the price of electricity becomes higher. If you’ve gotten tired of paying big power bills month after month, then, it’s about time that you become aware of how to conserve electricity. The following are effective electricity saving tips that are sure to help you reduce energy bills:

Tip A: Turn off all appliances that you have no use for at the moment.

One of the ways to save electricity is to completely power off any electrical device or appliance that you’re not using. Powering off completely means unplugging those appliances from your electrical outlets. By doing the said tip, your electric consumption decreases.

Tip B: Never leave your television or your computer in stand-by mode.

One more advice that pertains to the concern: how to conserve electricity, is to avoid leaving your appliances e.g. your desktop PC, your TV, etc, on standby mode. A lot of people may not know it, but, appliances that are on stand-by mode actually can consume up to 90% energy, which is like leaving them turned on. Thus, you should always remember that part of essential electricity saving tips is to turn off your TV, PC, and so on, totally.

Tip C: Replace incandescent bulbs with CFLs.

Another way to reduce energy bills is to make use of CFLs instead of your old incandescent light bulbs. Why? Well, CFLs are proven to be energy efficient, and actually use up around 50% less energy than incandescent bulbs. Compact Fluorescent light bulbs also have longer life spans than their incandescent counterparts, thereby giving you more savings.

Tip D: Let your newly washed clothes dry by air as much as possible.

Included in the ways to save electricity is allowing your washed clothes to air dry, especially during the Summer months. By hanging clothes to dry by air, you need not use a dryer. Remember that dryers and other heating devices use up a lot of electricity, so by refraining from using the dryer, unless needed, you can expect to reduce energy bills.

Tip E: Buy energy saving appliances.

One of the most vital electricity saving tips is for you to purchase appliances that have the Energy Star logo. Those appliances are actually proven to be energy-efficient compared to those that have no Energy Star rating. Though most Energy-Star rated appliances may cost higher, you still will be able to save more because they use up less energy, and, at the same time, they last longer than models that are not energy-efficient.

Tip F: Remove the dust from your air conditioner, your freezer, etc.

Another advice on how to conserve electricity is this: make sure that you eliminate the dust and dirt that accumulate in your air conditioning unit, freezer, and so on. This is because the dust actually increases energy consumption by up to 25 percent.

Tip G: Do not overcrowd your refrigerator.

Another tip that falls under the ways to save electricity is for you not to overcrowd your refrigerator. Why? Well, if your fridge is too full, there will be no proper air circulation, which can decrease your fridge’s energy efficiency capability.

Tip H: Make sure that your food is cool enough before you place it in the fridge.

A technique on how you can reduce energy bills is to avoid placing hot meals/food inside the refrigerator as that will just make your fridge ‘work harder’, therefore consuming more power. You should wait until the meals decrease their heat, before you keep them in your refrigerator.

By following the electricity saving tips shared, you can enjoy lower power bills. If you want to learn how you can build a solar power generator or a wind power generator in order to minimize electricity consumption greatly, check out: Energy 2 Green. The said guide is created by Tomas Haynes, who’ll show you the steps through pictures, diagrams, etc.

Money Saving Tactics – Fast Food Coupons!

December 31, 2010
By

Most fast food outlets have seating arrangements where customers can sit and eat the food. In most developed and developing countries people eat out more than five times a week and in most cases eat in a fast food restaurant.

Since its inception, fast food has been designed to be eaten on the go and do not require the traditional cutlery items. It is usually rapidly served in cartons or bags or in a plastic wrapping, in a fashion which minimizes cost. Some of the common menu items at fast food outlets are fish and chips, sandwiches, pitas, hamburgers, fried chicken, French fries, chicken nuggets, tacos, pizza, hot dogs and ice cream. Many fast food restaurants also offer chili, mashed potatoes and salads also.

In addition to the traditional American fast food such as hamburgers (also known as burgers) and fries, other forms of fast food items such as Chinese noodles and other Asian and Indian delicacies such as tikkas, tandoori chicken also enjoy widespread popularity in the West.

The most favorite fast food item is the burger. Burgers are hamburgers which are actually a sandwich consisting of a cooked ground meat patty, usually beef, and placed in a sliced bun or between pieces of bread or toast. Hamburgers are often served with various condiments, such as ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, relish etc. as well as lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and cheese

Another favorite fast item is the Shakes and is also known as Milkshakes and Smoothies. A milkshake is a sweet, cold beverage made from milk, ice cream or iced milk, with added flavorings or sweeteners such as fruit syrup or chocolate sauce. Milkshakes are usually served in a tall glass with a straw, and whipped cream may be added as a topping. Several popular milkshake flavors include vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry.

Fast food coupons are actually a negotiable certificate that can be redeemed for buying some fast food item. The detachable part entitles the bearer to certain benefits such as cash refund, discounts, free food items or gifts. These coupons can also be stocked up and used as and when needed. However most fast food centers offers on these coupons are for a fixed period or for a fixed food item. For example buying a medium sized milkshake can fetch you a coupon for a free meal, free drink or free French fries. Fast food coupons are used as a method for promoting the sales of the Fast Food outlet.

Saving Time in the Kitchen

It’s 4 p.m., and the kids are coming home from school. Your better half will be home with in the hour. And there you sit, still in your P.J.’s, surrounded by paperwork. You haven’t even thought about what to make for supper! Relax. With a little forethought you can put a delicious meal on the table, and it doesn’t have to take hours.

The first step is to make sure you have food available to make. There have been times when I’ve been so busy, I haven’t had time to shop. That’s when I rush to the freezer and pull out something I have made previously. A little defrosting, pop it in the oven-and viola! A home cooked meal.

If you don’t have a freezer, you should invest in one if financially feasible. If money is tight, check out the classifieds for a used freezer. When there is a great sale on an item, you can buy ahead, and freeze the extra. If you take one day a month, make up hamburgers, meatballs and a few casseroles to freeze; you will always have an emergency meal available.

And don’t forget the leftovers! Here are two very quick meals you can make with leftover chicken breast.

Chicken Nachos
1can of cheddar cheese soup
½ cup salsa
2- 5oz. cans of chunk chicken (or cut-up leftover chicken)
Sliced, pitted olives
Sliced green onion
1 bag of tortilla chips

In a saucepan, add soup, salsa, and chicken. Use low heat, stirring frequently. Serve over tortilla chips. Top with green onion and olives.

Serve raw broccoli, carrot sticks and celery sticks beforehand for a nutritious appetizer.

Cheesy Chicken – in- a- Biscuit (one of our favorites!)
1 to 2 cans of refrigerated biscuits (the wheat biscuits are sooo yummy with this recipe!)
1 cup diced cooked chicken breast
1 (10.5oz) can of cream of chicken soup
2/3 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 tsp. parsley
½ tsp. thyme
¼ tsp. pepper

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

In a medium bowl, combine the chicken, soup, cheese and seasonings. Mix well.

Separate biscuits and place each one in a muffin cup. Press the dough up the sides of the cup. Fill each biscuit with the chicken mixture. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes. Remove from oven. Let sit for 2-3 minutes. Serves 5.

Cook and Rain Forge Decent Partnership for Saving the Game

July 16, 2010
By

England may yet escape defeat in the third Test although, having been outplayed, they will find nothing satisfactory in doing so as a result of the weather rather than their own efforts. It is mum’s spurious sick note to get off games. The England batsmen were going along tidily enough in any case, already nurturing hopes of making Sri Lanka work hard for their wickets when the first swath of rain arrived shortly before lunch.

Mopping-up procedures were in progress when the next lot arrived, however, with such an intensity that it beat a tattoo on the pavilion roof as if the ghost of John Bonham had descended and across the ground the Dutch fort, sodden flags hanging droopily, was all but obscured. Further play was never an option and, weather permitting, the players returned for the finale early this morning although, as the forecast is for much of the same, the chances of completion must be slim.

In fact England had made a considerably better fist of it second time around, after the mesmeric manner in which wickets tumbled in their first innings. Michael Vaughan and Alastair Cook added 67 for the first wicket before the England captain was seduced into chasing a wide ball from the lithe left-armer Chanaka Welegedara and edging to second slip. He left the field, for the last time on this tour, scratching his head with looking quizzical. He would make an excellent Stan Laurel.

After batting with such panache in Colombo, where he made 87 and 61 yet was not able to capitalize, Vaughan has had a chastening experience here: in cricket rosebuds have to be gathered while ye may.

A first-innings misjudgment may have been on his mind, as the young bowler zipped a ball into his pads for a very close lbw shout, then slanted another across him past the outside edge. A third ball, wider, did for him. Although batsmen are loth to admit it, they are sometimes outwitted.

Cook sailed past a half-century for the 15th time and third in this series, hitting seven boundaries on the way to an unbeaten 53, largely through standing tall and, off the back foot, right elbow high, biffing anything slightly short through extra cover. He will have been eyeing a seventh Test century, though he has confessed to some myopia against Murali.

There is still the opportunity for Ian Bell, too, to play an innings of substance in the composed, unruffled manner displayed by Sri Lanka’s captain, Mahela Jayawardene, first in Colombo and then here in Galle. Bell was unbeaten on 17 when the players left the field and the vast covers were heaved into place by the army of ground staff, and against pace, swing and spin he looked comfortable.

At 102 for one England need only 31 for the team’s match aggregate to exceed Jayawardene’s individual 213 and so leave Inzamam-ul-Haq as the only batsman to finish a match having scored, in Lahore in 2002, more from his own bat in a single innings( 329) than the opposition New Zealand (73 and 246) managed from two completed innings combined. Total ignominy will thus be avoided.

England needed a firm response to the first innings to salvage credibility. Thursday’s contained a comedic element and, if there was any comfort to be taken, it is that such aberrational things do happen, if a little too often to England sides.

Australia have lost matches to Bangladesh and Zimbabwe in the recent past. It pays to have a sense of humor. Once, though, is sufficient. It is not often that a side humiliated in its first innings collapses in quite the same manner second time around, having followed on.

If England want an extreme example from personal experience, then Vaughan need cast his mind back only as far as his own debut series in South Africa in 1999 and recall the match in Kingsmead in which South Africa were bowled out brilliantly by Andrew Caddick for 156 but, following on, had reached 572 for seven by the time the game dribbled out.

That sort of outlandish response is out of the question here but, with the pitch playing well enough, despite offering encouragement for bowlers of all type, England should bat out a full day if necessary.

Orlando Vacation Money Saving Tips

May 24, 2010
By

Though you may intend on going to theme parks while in Orlando, they can sometimes be costly—especially if you stay on theme park property and eat all of your meals in the parks. In order to save some money there are a few things you can do.

Shopping

If you’re in the market for souvenirs, you might want to think twice about solely purchasing them from the theme parks. Orlando is home to numerous gift shops that offer discounted souvenirs. From t-shirts and snow globes to figurines and key chains, merchandise is diverse and appeals to guests with all types of interests. Especially on International Drive and 192, there are plenty of shops that offer both theme park-specific types of gifts and Orlando souvenirs. This can result in big savings.

Dining

Sure, dining at a theme park can be fun. You can have breakfast, lunch or dinner with your favorite characters. You can indulge in theme park-inspired cuisine. And you can even enjoy the convenience of refueling without leaving theme park grounds. Still, this can result in extra spending. Theme parks are notorious for overcharging on everything from drinks and snacks to full meals. To save some money you can try limiting the number of meals you spend in the theme parks. Instead, take a break in the afternoon and go back to your hotel for lunch. Or have dinner offsite at a less-expensive restaurant.

Discounts

Another way to save money on your Orlando vacation is to look for area discounts. These include Florida-resident, military and AAA just to name a few. Theme parks, other attractions, restaurants, museums and gift shops all offer discounts. If you’re staying in a hotel or you visit a restaurant, look for a brochure stand. Brochures often feature coupons for area attractions and dining. If you book a vacation home, ask about any deals that include theme park tickets.

Attractions

Whether or not you are going to Orlando for the major theme parks, be aware that there are plenty of smaller, often less-expensive attractions. Orlando is home to a variety of things to do—from golf courses, horseback riding, canoeing and kayaking to indoor skydiving, helicopter tours, air balloon rides, water slides and museums. And many of the smaller attractions offer reasonably priced admission—sometimes even free—as well as free parking. Whether you want to go to a themed restaurant or window-shop at the outlet malls, you will find plenty to do in addition to the theme parks.

Other Areas

If you are in fact going to Orlando in order to visit the major theme parks, you may be unaware of other areas to explore. International drive is home to more then 100 hotels, over 450 restaurants and more than 485 designer stores. Here you will also find a Wet’n Wild, SkyVenture, Ripley’s Believe It or Not, Wonderworks and miniature golfing, go-karts and more. Downtown Orlando is home to Lake Eola where you can take a walk, go on the swings, have a lakeside lunch or ride a swan boat. You can also take advantage of the nightlife having some cocktails, dancing or seeing a concert at one of the menu bars or venues. And in Winter Park you will find picturesque sidewalks, beautiful landscaping, boutiques, designer shops, art galleries and sidewalk dining. While these areas vary in cost, each one is diverse and can save you money that you might spend by solely going to theme parks.

The main thing to remember is that you should do your research. Have an idea about what you want to do in Orlando and research any deals that you may be able to take advantage of. Proper planning and being in-the-know can easily result in hundreds of dollars worth of savings.

How to Lose Weight and Keep it Off For Good While Saving Money

May 17, 2010
By

As prices keep going up as quickly as the unemployment rate, most people are finding themselves searching for ways of saving money more than ever. The things that were once considered luxuries are no longer affordable. Eating dinner out at a nice restaurant. Buying a new outfit just because you like it. Going on a vacation. Even keeping a gym membership.

Cutting all these expenses is a wise decision. After all, how can you justify spending $100 on a rock concert ticket if you do not have enough money left over to buy groceries? There is one mistake people make, however, and that is considering weight loss and health products to be a luxury. Why keep your $100 a month nutrition program in your budget when you can eat a McDonalds value meal for under $5?

Well unfortunately, if that is your way of thinking you will not only keep gaining weight, but you will wind up spending more money doing so. Knowing how to lose weight and keep it off for good requires the mindset of a productive person. Your goals have to outweigh your wallet, and that means understanding the value of your health.

First of all, you would have to be living in a cave to not know that the cheaper the food, the worse it is for your body. We all know how much fast food can take its toll. That being said, how much is a Big Mac and large french fry extra value meal really worth? You may be saving money each time you order, but you are paying a much bigger price overall.

Think about it. How did you get yourself fat in the first place? It did not happen overnight or else you would have noticed it. It happened meal by meal, snack by snack, and leading a sedentary lifestyle day by day. The sum of the parts equals the whole. If you continue on this trend, your medical bills will go up and you will need to buy a whole new wardrobe to cover your ever growing body. Trust me, your health is the last thing that should be on your list of expenses to cut. This is probably the most important reason to lose weight and keep it off for good.

Most weight loss and nutrition programs work as meal replacements. Mine, for instance, provides me with a shake that I use as a meal replacement. It costs roughly $3 for one shake, so I am saving money and getting all the nutrition from a huge meal (without the fat and calories) for only $3. The last time I checked, that is cheaper than any meal I’ve ever found, even with a coupon!

There must be a catch, right? The shake must not taste very good, or it can not possibly fill you up like a huge meal would. Wrong. It is a soy-based protein shake scientifically designed to provide proper nutrition with the ultimate goal of weight loss and weight maintenance. If this is your goal, this is what you want.

Here is the biggest misconception of all. Nutritional programs usually require people to spend the money up front for a month supply. That means you have to change your way of thinking. Instead of seeing it as $100 you do not think you have, break it down like you would at McDonalds. You actually saving money since you are replacing meals.

If you ate at fast food three times a day and it cost $5 each time, you are in essence spending $450 a month to put the worst food you can find into your body. My nutritional program costs $100 a month. That covers two meals a day, and a sensible meal at home every night costs roughly $7. So the total cost of my meals for the month is $310…and I am getting the best nutrition possible!

What happens when you provide your body with proper nutrition? It gets your body working at optimal performance for weight loss, healing and overall wellness. Just by following a simple program that included soy-based protein meal replacements as I described earlier, I not only lost 70 pounds in 4 months, but I have kept it off for over 15 years and got off all of my asthma medications.

Once you begin to lose weight you will begin to feel motivated to continue living a healthy lifestyle. This is essential to lose weight and keep it off for good. Ever wonder why most people yo-yo diet? It is because once they have lost weight, they go back to their old eating habits. When you take meal replacements, you will continue to lead a healthy lifestyle and gaining weight will no longer be a problem.

I did not have a lot of money to spend then, just as many people today do not, but what I did have way a desire to change without making excuses. There will always be times when you think you can not afford something, but your health is nothing to be cheap about. You get what you pay for, and if you are smart, you can make it work to your advantage. To put it simply… now is the time to lose weight and keep it off for good while saving money.

Saving Money On Food & Drink

May 17, 2010
By

Have you ever just about died of a heart attack at the checkstand of your local grocery store? It seems like the price of food and beverages keeps escalating, with no end in sight. Higher transportation costs (especially fuel) are only one of the many factors have significantly impacted the price of goods at your local store. This article will discuss some of the ways you can cut back your expenses on purchased food and water.

Food Purchased at Markets

You can save hundreds of dollars a year by shopping at the lower-priced food stores. Higher-end grocery stores may have a nicer, brighter, more spacious shopping area, but you are paying for that in the form of higher prices. Some grocery chains offer a “preferred” customer card, supposedly to give you the best price over the “non-preferred, non-cardholding” customers. You would probably be unwise to shop at these stores without such a card (although it may be necessary when traveling, etc.), but you would be even more wise to look elsewhere. Sometimes that “preferred” customer price is higher than the regular price at the store just down the street. Resist that urge to shop at the convenience store on your way home; you pay for that convenience in the form of often significantly higher prices.

Shop with a list! This little bit of planning can also save you hundreds of dollars annually. How many times have you gone to the store just for milk (that you forgot to buy earlier in the week when you were there) and come home with $30 or more worth of groceries? Grocery stores are purposely designed to keep you in the store as long as possible; for example, on your way to the back of the store to get milk (even this is on purpose), you pass by hundreds of products and colorful displays, not to mention delicious smells enticing you in their direction. And, oh what luck! There is a cookie display right next to the milk. Even the music over the loudspeaker has been specifically chosen based on market analysis of what age brackets of shoppers shop at what times of the day (and thus what kind of music they like). Make out a list and stick to it!

As with all other things, comparison shop. You can save hundreds of dollars a year by comparing price-per-ounce or other unit prices on shelf labels. Stock up on those items with low per-unit costs. Store brands are often just as good or better than national brands, at sometimes almost half the cost! Try some; you probably will be pleasantly surprised.

Water

When you go out to eat, don’t buy a drink. Ask for water instead. You probably won’t notice the difference (if the food is good enough) and you will be drinking a healthy alternative to soda or alcohol.

Keep a water bottle near you at all times. When you start feeling hungry or thirsty drink some water instead of heading for the vending machine or that stash of candy bars in your desk. Many times we feel hungry when we are instead thirsty. Satisfy the thirst first! You will save money and improve your health.

If you prefer drinking bottled water, look into purchasing a water purifier or purification system. Over the long run it may be much cheaper than purchasing bottled water. In addition, a good filtration system could improve your health, considering all the microbes and chemicals found in the water coming out of the tap!

Saving money on food and water doesn’t require that you go on a starvation diet. It just requires a little up-front planning. You know the saying: If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Make planning a habit and watch the savings rack up.
