P90x, Insanity, TurboFire – The Hybrid Workouts

January 22, 2011
By

For many years P90x has been the gold standard in home workout DVDs. It has held a tight grip on being the best and the most popular workout out there on the market. But even after getting done with P90x, there are people out there who still want more, who still want more muscle confusion. Since there has not been an in-workout lately that has come out to dethrone the P90x workout, it might be time to join the workouts instead.

Here is what I mean…The Insanity workout is an incredible workout, but it still does not have the diversity that p90x has or the massive success. If you have done the P90x workout, then you are probably looking for a bigger challenge. Here is how you find that challenge, mix the Insanity workout with your P90x workout. This is called a hybrid workout. The reason why these workouts will work so well together is because P90x is more muscle building, body resistance, and weight lifting, and the Insanity workout is more cardio and interval training. The two workouts will work hand in hand with each other, and both will challenge your body to the point of failure.

I would not recommend mixing a a workout like TurboFire and Insanity, because they are both focused around interval training. But you can definitely mix TurboFire with P90x.

P90x has been said to have one flaw, not enough cardio. The way you fix that is to run on your own, or get another in-home workout routine and trade off days between your P90x and Insanity workout. Many people have already grabbed hold of this concept, and many people are finding huge success in it.

Obviously P90x is not your normal boring workout; it involves innovative exercises and is super great at using muscle confusion for continuous results. P90x is a muscle toning workout, which can either help you burn fat, or build muscle.

Just like P90x, the Insanity workout is also unique and effective. Insanity prides itself on interval training, and it is not just any old interval training, but it is Max interval training. Traditional interval training calls for short burst of full energy, and longer rest periods. Well Insanity’s interval training calls for longer bursts of full energy and shorter rest periods.

Turbo Fire is not your walk in the park type workout either. It too prides itself on Interval training called HIIT (high intensity interval training). Even though TurboFire and Insanity both focus on interval training it is really up to a person’s preference on which workout they should choose.

So if you are looking for a workout to get you in great shape, then you will definitely want to get the P90x workout, but if you want to get into the best shape of your life, then you will want to get P90x and Insanity or TurboFire. You will see your body change in incredible ways. The most popular hybrid is p90x and insanity, but be ready to face the toughest workouts you have ever done, neither one is easier than the other.

So you’ve seen the commercials, heard about it from your friends or colleagues, but you want to know what P90X REALLY is about. Not just “Oh man…it’s EXTREME!” Pull up a chair and I’ll give you an in depth look at the workout program that WILL change your life.

Let’s get right down to it and start with the workouts. Have you ever bought a workout video that was a half hour or forty-five minutes of a more talk than working out? Then the workout you do get is for beginners, or is better suited for your 12 year old? Yea, me too, but P90X is not it. First of all, they give you a full DVD on how to get the most of the workouts. The trainer, Tony Horton, gets serious, and gives you serious motivation to get the change in your body you are looking for. Then, they give you a whopping TWELVE DVDs. That’s twelve hour-long workouts! These guys are nuts! Not only are they twelve workouts, but also if you are not in shape like a professional athlete, you WILL NOT be able to finish the workouts. I’m serious, and so are the workouts. Their strength workouts are based on circuit type training. The strength workout DVDs are: chest and back; shoulders, triceps, bicep; back and legs; chest, shoulder, triceps; back and biceps and finally the “Ab Ripper X”, as they like to call it. Each one starts with a warm up and stretch, and each one has a cool down period…so you are completely done in 1 hour.

Now, I want to tell you about the chest and back a bit more. Basically, you rotate a chest exercise, then a back exercise. It starts out with pushups, then pull-ups. You will rotate regular grip, then wide grip then narrow grip and finally reverse grip (pull-ups). Tony then has you doing some decline and incline pushups, bent over rows, back flys and some crazy military push ups that the Navy SEALS have a hard time doing. There are of course a couple other exercises that I didn’t mention, but they are all variations of the above. So, with about 15 seconds rest in between each exercise, you finish the first round and you are SPENT! Then he says….”This is where most programs are finished….but not us! We’re not done!” And you look at the TV screen like..”Are you kidding me right now..I can’t even lift my arms over my head…..and you want me to get back on the pull up bar”??? Yea…that’s right…get back up there. But, don’t worry, about half way through the 90 days….you’re yelling back at the TV screen going…….bring it harder old man!!! (Oh yea..Tony is the most ripped 48 year old guy you have EVER seen….EVER!)

So, that about covers one DVD. The rest are more of the same torture (at first, then you realize you are a friggin’ animal, and begin to love that stuff). But wait, I’m not done! There are cardio workouts! Plyometrics, Yoga, Cardio X, and Core Synergistics. All of which will have you scraping the floor with your tongue if you are not already a marathon runner. Oh yea….I know someone who IS a marathon runner, and he STILL had trouble with these babies when he first started! Yea, these workouts are serious, so you should be too if you want to tackle them and get in the best shape of your life! Did I mention they give you a calendar and a workbook to track your progress and a 40-page guide to all of the workouts in addition to the DVDs? Yea…they do.

Let’s talk about the P90X nutrition plan now. So unless you are a professional athlete (actually….professional athletes can benefit from this nutrition guide too) you need this nutrition guide. It’s really like getting a masters degree in how our bodies work. After you read the P90X nutrition guide, you will want to sue someone every time you see the crap on TV and in the news about how to lose weight. Everyone is feeding us misinformation!! It’s crazy that the owners of these companies are not sent to jail!!! Because it’s a crime!! The P90X nutrition guide shows you IN DETAIL how EXACTLY to burn YOUR fat, and build YOUR muscle, not someone else’s fat and muscle. They take you step by step, calculate your energy requirements for rest, for exercise, for everything, then give you a solid number to hang your hat on, so you know every single day, that you are either losing fat, or not. In addition, they give you meal plans, down to the last calorie, carbohydrate and protein, so that you know EXACTLY what is going on in your body. No more guessing if you are losing weight because the scale might be wrong. The hell with the scale! You don’t need it! It’s throwing you off! Calculate your weight loss!! Then, in one month, look at it in your pictures….you will be astonished! In addition, P90X puts you on three different phases of your nutrition plan: a fat burning phase, a strength phase and an endurance phase. You can watch you body change each week in the mirror….it is totally crazy!!! They even give you an entire 90 days worth of meal recipes. If you don’t like those, they have a “Portion Plan”, so you can chose your own foods and still follow the plan. Of course, the online website has tons more recipes from other people that went through P90X who have submitted so others can benefit. This is the most complete, real, and healthy way to get super-fit that you will find anywhere…..I can guarantee that!!!

P90X Diet Guide

October 6, 2010
By

The P90X plan is a complete fitness regimen, in which a dieter needs to follow a strict diet, healthy eating habits and perform exercises for 13 weeks. The main objective of this weight loss program is to boost the energy level and metabolism rate by consuming a well-planned diet, in conjunction with a physical fitness regimen. In the P90X diet guide, a detailed information about the nutrition requirement and eating habit is provided to prospective dieters.

P90X Diet Guidelines

Developed by Carl Diekler, the P90X plan is claimed to be an effective way to maintain a toned body, when followed along with P90X calender. Before getting started, educating oneself about the P90X diet guide and P90X workout schedule is essential for getting prompt results. In short, both healthy eating and fitness tips are essential for successful weight loss. For your understanding, the P90X nutrition plan is explained below:

P90X Diet Guide: The Phases
There are three phases in the P90X nutrition plan. In all the phases, a dieter is required to serve frequent meals in small portions and drink adequate amount of water. Each phase is carefully planned with specific calorie intake and food options.

Phase I (Day 1-28): Lasting for the first four weeks, the first phase is called the fat shredder. Under this, the dieter is expected to consume lesser calories. High amount of protein (50 percent) with moderate carbohydrate (30 percent) and low fats (20 percent) are suggested to kick-start weight loss and build muscles.
Phase II (Day 29-56): Known as energy booster, high carbohydrate intake (40 percent) and low fat foods (20 percent) are supplemented in the second phase, while retaining high protein (40 percent). The objective is to increase energy level for physical activities and promote muscle growth.
Phase III (Day 57-90): The third phase is the endurance maximizer phase, in which low fat (20 percent), moderate protein (20 percent) and complex carbohydrates (40 percent) are included in the diet plan. By doing so, the energy level is maintained high, to get maximum benefits from strenuous workouts.
P90X Diet Guide: Suggested Foods
In the free P90X diet guide, it is clearly mentioned that the serving amount and food portions can be decided according to the dieter’s convenience. The only condition is to provide the right calories in correct amounts. The suggested foods that can be included for reaping healthy nutrients are:
Protein: Fat free, healthy protein sources are recommended. For example; red meat, eggs and poultry products.
Carbohydrate: Preferably complex carbohydrates and whole grains, like wheat, brown rice, oats, barley, etc.
Diary Products: Low fat milk or skimmed milk, low fat cheese, yogurt, smoothies prepared with fruits.
Vegetable and Fruit: Fresh greens, organic vegetables, organic fruits, mixed salads and juices.
Seed and Nut: Pulses, flax seeds, soy nuts and dried fruits.
Condiments: Salad dressings, low calorie marinades, mustard, ketchup, barbecue sauce and honey.
P90X Diet Guide: Meal Sample
Once a dieter gets enrolled in the weight loss plan, he/she will be given a P90X diet guide book. In the book, meal samples are provided, so that dieters will have an easy time in planning their daily meal menu. The following is a meal sample, which you can refer to while deciding the food items:
Breakfast: Brown bread or whole-grained cereals
Morning Snack: Omelet or scrambled egg
Lunch: Mixed salad or green salad and turkey breast
Afternoon Snack: Fruit (apple) and protein bar
Dinner: Steamed veggies, grilled fish or grilled meat
Evening Snack: Protein shake or protein bar
Even though the P90X nutrition guide is easy to understand and not so difficult to follow, the exercises are not suitable for all people. Hence, go through the P90X diet guide and suggested P90X workout schedule beforehand, and decide whether this weight loss plan is perfect for you or not. There is no point in ordering the said plan and spending $120 for enrollment, if you are not comfortable with the purported exercise program.

Can’t Stop Eating Fast Food While You Are Going Through P90X Program?

July 30, 2010
By

Even though most fitness program including the P90X strongly recommend that you stay off fast food to get results, sometimes it’s almost inevitable and as hard as you may try you end up eating the forbidden fast foods. Now depending on your lifestyle and how busy you are, it can be increasingly difficult to stay away from fast foods. For instance, if you are a dad like me and have kids who have atomic energy and are always on the go, there may always be times when there is not other option besides eating out. But the good things is that you can watch those calories even when you are eating out and get a good meal that will last you till the next meal without giving you too many calories.

To begin with you will need to information about the basic of healthy eating and try to get this information before you start mulling over eating out. Only if you know what you can and cannot eat will the task be easy. In my opinion you should always have a list of things that can be eaten and the ones that have to be avoided at all cost in hand, this way you will be able to make those tough decisions like whether you should go for turkey or ham at subway.

Breakfast

Sp to begin with, let’s talk about the P90X recommended breakfast and how you can easily get it from McDonalds with few grams of fat more that will have to be worked out. According to the system your breakfast should include carbs that you can get through 2 slices of bread, a good amount of protein which you can get from eggs or yoghurt and a little fat.

Now, if you are going to a fast food joint, you should simply forget about controlling your fat intake because everything has fat in it. So let’s say you are eating at McDonalds. For breakfast get an egg/ham mcmuffin without cheese. Here you will get the required amount of protein from the eggs and the ham and the muffin will give you the carbs, of course there will be fat in both but this options certainly better some of the other options available at fast food restaurants.

Midday Snack

If you get hungry after breakfast and before lunch, you should choose a nutrition bar hopefully you will learn to carry a few with you if not you will just have to pick one from a convenience store at a higher price but then you deserve to be punished for forgetting the nutribar.

Lunch

So its lunch time and you are hungry, what are you going to do? Subway is your best bet here; go for a six inch sub, get double meat and lots of veggies and you should get all the vitamins and the proteins that you need. If you are at McDonalds, you could g for 2 regular hamburgers but done eat the top bun of one of the burgers because they have a lot of fats. If you don’t have the time to go to a fast food restaurant, simply jump into the closest grocery store and see if they have a sushi section and you could just grab some beef jerkey for proteins.

Afternoon Snack

Now for the snack after lunch, have a smoothie, not a sugar smoothie made from the things that you have got from home, so your smoothie should have half a banana, low fat milk and some protein powder. This is the time when the carb need to go, so a nutri bar would also do at this point.

Dinner

Finally, at dinner time stick to meats and veggie; my favorite place for a nutritional fitness dinner is KFC ever since they introduced the grill chicken. You can get a breast piece with some veggies or you could choose a chicken salad or simply stick with the salads.

P90X Nutrition Guide

July 16, 2010
By

Diet and exercise are two inseparable parts of any exercise program. It is impossible to reach one’s fitness goals if any one of these is overlooked. The same logic has been used by fitness trainer Tony Horton and beachbody home fitness company, while designing the P90X nutrition guide, which has to be followed in tandem with the P90X workout schedule. The logic behind designing this fitness diet is that when a person burns more calories than he consumes, he burns fat and his body becomes lean. However, to perform exercises the body needs energy so each and every calorie that the person consumes through his diet should be of very high quality.

P90X Nutrition Plan

The P90X nutrition plan is divided into three phases in accordance with the P90X calendar. The first phase is the fat burning phase, the second is the strength increasing phase and the third is the endurance building phase. Here is the P90X nutrition guide for each of these phases.

Fat Shredder (For Days 1-28)
The first phase is designed in such a way so as to make the body lean. In this phase, a high protein diet has to be undertaken, which helps in strengthening the muscles, at the same time losing fat from the body. The daily diet should consist of 50% proteins, 30% carbohydrates and 20% fats.

The fat shredder phase is further divided into three levels, according to which the number of portions that a person has to consume are determined.
