Different Uses for Fruits

January 22, 2011

Do you ever take a bit of a fruit, such as an apple, and wonder what other uses it has in life? Probably not, but if you look around, fruits are being used everywhere. In this article I will cite many examples of where fruits are being used in products around the globe.

I just took a shower. I used a shampoo with peach extract and my hair smells of a beautiful peach scent. That wasn’t the only thing in the routine that had a fruit extract in it. I also used an exfoliating scrub. What did it contain? To my amazement, it was based with sugar but had pomegranate extract in the formula. Against my better judgment, I tasted some and it was delicious!

That was not the end of my fruit escapade, though. I walked into my main foyer of my parent’s house, (I’m on vacation with them for the time being) and saw my mother rubbing pineapple juice on her face and neck. What in the heck was she doing, I was thinking to myself as I saw her frantically cut pineapple and apply it to her skin? She was using an old anti aging remedy that apparently works. Pineapple juice, among other things, works on the skin to prevent and treat wrinkles. This isn’t the only home wrinkle remedy I learned tonight, but it was the only one that used fruit.

The acai berry, found in the Amazon region of Brazil, is no stranger to media and it’s been used in many formulas worldwide from weight loss, to juices, to skin care. Now, it’s being used in one of the top eye serums on the market. What else can this berry do, be used as an alternative fuel? It seems acai berry is everywhere, and now that it is a household skin care ingredient, there really is no limit to where it could go next.

Fruits are also used in healing. I remember a time when a major league baseball player caught a ball and his thumb instantly swelled up from the impact it made. There was talk that it was broken. What did he do? He cut open a lime, filled it with salt, and put his thumb in there. He then closed the lime and squeezed it. I’m not sure what this age old Latin American remedy really does therapeutically, if anything, but the point I am making is it involved a fruit!

Fruits are everywhere, and it’s hard to imagine a world without fruit….at the rate it is being used, what will be next?

Pomegranate Extract Skin Care
Pomegranate extract has been shown to be highly successful in wrinkle cream formulas.

Why Fruits????

November 25, 2010
By

All ancient texts, philosophies, religions, treatises ..every word of literature, philosophy or sacred text written by man, has one or the other mention of fruits. All regions of the world have their own specialties, all other regions have learnt to appreciate each one of these, most have been discovered and loved, and there are still many deep inside bountiful forests that have not been utilized to the fullest. Fruits continue to mesmerize humans since Adam’s times, when the apple (or was it???) was the forbidden fruit that Adam could not resist. Of course, though the geographical location of Eden, the presence of two fig leaf clad humans and the exact specie of the forbidden fruit is under controversy, the fact that it was a forbidden FRUIT is undisputed. So, fruit stands for the earliest temptation known to mankind. No wonder then, that it is the first complete food that humans knew and the vegetarians among us, even back in the Cro-Magnon times, loved to munch on the fleshy goodies that the forests around our caves provided…perhaps an apple, or a peach?

While Eden is a Christian concept, the Koran also says that fruits like the grape, figs, dates and olives are God’s gift to the believing part of mankind. Most old civilizations consider fruits to be possessed of divine or magical properties. Most were dedicated to Gods and Goddesses.

All this reverence is not only because of their attractive appearance. Historically and botanically speaking, fruits, dried and fresh, are the staple food of man. Indeed many argue that man is not a carnivore (for various reasons), and needs no meat to survive, only fruits, vegetables, plant products are enough, even quite nutritious. But we shall not get into that discussion here. The fact remains that fruits contain substantial quantities of nutrients, minerals, vitamins, enzymes, anti-oxidants, have a cleansing and de-toxing effect on the human digestive system, and can serve as medicines to fight the ill effects of unnatural and artificial diets too.

Fruits have a hydrating effect, something like moisturizing our insides. Fruit juices can be the best sources of sugar and vitamins at the same time. As diuretics, the potassium, magnesium and sodium content in fruits can increase the frequency of urination and at the same time control its density, thus controlling water retention in the body, helping our kidneys to relax and function normally. Heavy foods make our intestines sluggish and we all know what the effects of a sluggish intestinal tract are… like some giant sleepy python, unwilling to move, accumulating undigested material (that should have passed out as shit long ago), it rots inside us, thereby rotting our insides.. Then the toxins that such a sluggish system can push out into the blood are reduced. Consuming fruits changes all this – alkaline salts present in fruits can neutralize the most stubborn stomach acids, and thus promote intestinal elimination. This way the digestive system can be kept free from toxic wastes, keeping the intestinal tract active and healthy. Consumption of fruits, therefore, can cure the sick of the principal cause of almost all maladies – a sluggish system. Fibrous matter in fruits also serves to aid in smooth elimination of wastes in the body, amounting to smooth bowel motion. Hence keeping fruits as a regular part of the diet does away with the chances of constipation.

Besides, there are some direct effects like the presence of calcium, iron and magnesium in fruits like apricots, raisins and dried dates, great for blood and for the bones. Fruits like custard apple supply almost 800 mg of calcium per piece, meeting almost the whole of our daily requirement.
.
Citrus fruits and guavas, custard apples are an invaluable source of vitamin C, and eaten raw, manage to retain the entire vitamin content. Several others (particularly the brightly colored ones) contain carotene which supplies us with vitamin A. In fact the fresh yellow mango pulp is a very rich source of Vitamin A, and can provide up to a week’s requirement of the mineral. The papaya is yet another excellent source of Vitamin A and C, in addition to being extremely good for the liver.

Fruits should never be eaten cooked, and should form a meal by themselves, preferably one variety at a time. Taken as juices, they start losing their properties, so eating fruit is much better than DRINKING it.

Ancient wisdom as well as modern medicine recommends juice fasting as a sure method of cleansing the system by fasting. A glassful of diluted juice should be taken every two hours, between eight am and eight pm. The juice should be diluted with equal quantity of water, and be freshly squeezed, never canned. Citrus juices make the best fasting juices, oranges, grapefruit and even pineapple. Six to eight glasses of this juice in a day is an excellent idea for even a weekly de-tox program.

In place of fasting, one can also have an all fruits diet, highly beneficial for chronic diseases like bronchitis, rheumatism, chronic catarrh and constipation as the fruits floods the body with extremely useful salts and minerals. The fruits that can be taken should be fresh, ripe and juicy, apples, pears, grapes, oranges, grapefruit, pineapple, peaches, melon or any other juicy fruit in season, but no bananas, and no other foods. In fact this is the secret to utilizing the great advantages that a fruit diet or juice diet can provide. NEVER, try to combine fruits with any other diets. For this reason, always make sure that fruits are taken at least half an hour before any other food stuffs.

There are strong anti-oxidant and some other qualities in fruits which can actually keep our organs for younger longer. For instance, fruit sugars, and vitamins B complex and C can aid heart functioning (so binge on apple, lemon, orange and pomegranate), while apple, date and mango can do wonders to the central nervous system. Regular consumption of these fruits will give the body ample doses of phosphorus, glutamic acid and vitamins A, and will sharpen the memory, prevent exhaustion, nervous tension and mental illnesses like insomnia and hysteria. Berries, extremely rich in iron, phosphorus and sodium also help in nervous disorders as well as blood building. Watermelons, with their great diuretic powers, make great kidney cleansers while pineapple, and pomegranates help in chronic nasal congestion such as that caused by hay fever. Regular drinking of grapefruit juice is actually known to cure the common cold while bananas, apples and figs can help fight brain diseases.

However, one should keep in mind that fruits contain a very high percentage of sugar so moderation in consumption is a good idea. Apart from that, fruits provide much more nutrition and life giving a well as body building nutrition than almost any other food known to mankind.

Fruits That Burn Fat – The Natural Way To Lose Weight Starting Today

September 8, 2010
By

People today always seem to be at the losing end when it comes to combating obesity, which generally has a negative effect on the person’s over-all health. And if you have an existing illness, being overweight can further complicate your condition.

And because of the bad effects of obesity, a good number of people make efforts to reduce weight. Some even go to great lengths such as refusing to eat for weeks just to achieve weight loss but sadly, they still fail.

Unknown to most dieters, the mere modification of their daily diet can already make a big positive impact when they want to shed excess pounds to reach their ideal weight. Shifting to a better diet plan will not only make you fit but healthier too.

In fact, health professionals and dietitians have the same opinion that the sure way to attain effective weight reduction that will last is through natural weight loss, specifically the monitoring of calorie intake along with work out or increase in physical activities.

However, there are some people who resort to chemically formulated diet pills or drastic ways of losing weight in an attempt to slim down. These options are not healthy but rather, they are risky because the pills trigger metabolism in an unnatural way and drastic methods often either give temporary results or none at all.

Additionally, one of the adverse effects of artificial weight loss methods is the higher chances of developing certain diseases like diabetes and heart disease. The bad effects are due to the chemical component of the pills. To top it all, most of the unnatural methods only worsen the body’s health condition.

So, it is clear that the best way is really the natural means. Apart from balanced diet and intense exercise, there are fruits that are natural fat burners. Add them up to your diet and lose weight naturally. The two best examples of these sorts of fruits are:

1. Pear

Based on actual research, adding fresh fruits in your daily diet can help in curbing hunger as well as lowering the amount of calories that you intake each day. The research also reveals that individuals who consumed 3 pears per day lost more weight than people who don’t because pear eaters only consume fewer calories.

And, as pears have lots of dietary fiber, your appetite will go down and you will always feel full even if you’ve only eaten a small amount. Grab a pear prior to eating your main meals to avoid overeating.

2. Grapefruit

Consuming just half of grapefruit before meals will make you lose 1 pound every week. The fruit can also lower the level of your cholesterol while helping you lose weight through burning your unwelcome fat. The pectin is the fiber in this fruit that is responsible for the fruit’s ability to reduce weight.
You can also get loads of potassium and vitamin C from this fruit. Though you may find its taste to be somewhat bitter, you can top it with cinnamon rather than sugar to make it more palatable.

More and more people are trying pills and unproven diets because they are desperate to get thinner fast. But sadly, these drastic measures do not have any other benefits than pose risks to health. They rarely work so do not be carried away with the fad and inviting commercials since the people behind them only want to make money than provide real solutions to obesity.

Some Anti-oxidant rich Super Fruits

July 24, 2010
By

It’s official—the Acai fruit is officially an energy fruit. A particular celebrity show host has said so. Don’t worry if you haven’t heard of acai fruit before, most people are still discovering the little berry. This little berry, though, is soon going to be world famous and in high demand. This fruit is actually a berry that comes from an Amazonian palm tree that is harvested in the Brazilian rainforest.

The acai fruit is a drupe that measures about an inch in diameter and looks sort of like a grape but does not have as much pulp. It grows in panicles of seven hundred to nine hundred and two crops of these fruits are produced each year. The fruit has a seed that is less than ten millimeters in diameter. The fruit is harvested as a food and is considered to be one of the most important species of three different Caboclo tribes in Brazil. The juices from the fruit are often blended into sodas, smoothies and other drinks and are traditionally served in a gourd alongside tapioca and sugar. In Brazil it is popularly served in a bowl where it is mixed with granola. This concoction is often thought of as an energy meal. The fruit has also been made into ice cream.

It is a very nutritious fruit. One hundred grams of this powder contains almost five hundred and forty calories, fifty two grams of carbohydrates, eight grams of protein and thirty two grams of fat. It has forty four grams of fiber, which makes it incredibly valuable as a macronutrient. It is also rich in fatty acids like oleic acid, palmitic acid and linoleic acid. It is thought to reduce blood cholesterol. It contains nineteen amino acids and is very high in aspartic acid and glutamic acid content.

The most important part of this fruit, though, is its anti-oxidant content. Anti-oxidants can slow down the aging process by keeping our cells healthy. Many authorities find that acai fruit is one of the most powerful anti-aging foods in existence. This small fruit contains more antioxidants than grapes and blueberries.

This fruit also has the potential to help people’s digestion (thanks to its high fiber content), keep their cardiovascular system healthy, and helps with muscle regeneration and contraction.

Acai-rich foods are hard to find, as the fruit is rare. You probably will not find anything with acai as an ingredient in your local grocery store, but you might be able to find it in a health food store or a gourmet store. Because the fruit is becoming more popular, largely thanks to a popular magazine, it will slowly start becoming easier to find and people might find ways to grow the “super fruit” somewhere outside of Brazil. You may visit RioVida transfer factor with Acai for more information.

The acai fruit is probably one of the healthiest fruits on the planet. It may help your muscles, your heart, your digestion, your energy levels and even can prevent early aging and slow down the rest of the aging process.
