Who Makes the Most Popular Anti Aging Face Products?

December 31, 2010
By

Any company would like to be responsible for creating the most popular anti aging face products. Judging from the number of internet searches on the subject, everyone would be interested in buying something that was truly effective, especially if it was cheap and easy to use.

Just a few weeks ago, there was a rumor about how Unilever and Ampere Life Sciences were banding together to create anti ageing ice cream. The rumor appeared on blogs and well known websites.

The number of searches for anti ageing ice cream soon reached into the 10s of thousands. There was a similar increase in the number of sites using that tag line.

It took nearly a month for responsible journalists to contact Unilever, Ampere and Ben & Jerry’s. Unilever is the parent company of Ben & Jerry’s. The answers provided by the companies did little to quash the rumor. Discussing future products would be “premature”.

It is safe to say that everyone involved would like to keep public interest high. While they might not be planning to release an antioxidant fortified ice cream, I am sure they are hoping to develop the most popular anti aging face products.

According to their original press release, the two giant companies plan to work on the “core biology of ageing”. They plan to develop antioxidant-containing products that span “multiple product categories”.

While there may be a few things that we don’t know, the core biology of ageing is relatively well understood. Ageing is caused by oxidation, inflammation, excessive glycation and inefficient methylation.

Oxidation occurs when free radicals become over-active due to exposure to UV radiation or toxins. Inflammation occurs due to injury, infection, unhealthy diets and inactive lifestyles. Excessive glycation is caused by excess consumption of simple carbohydrates. Inefficient methylation occurs due to age and poor nutritional intake.

Not all of these issues can be addressed with anti-ageing creams and dietary supplements. There is no replacement for regular physical activity. But the best creams and dietary supplements address most of those issues. They have yet to become the most popular anti aging face products, because they are made by a small company and most people don’t know about them.

Unilever and Ampere have billions of dollars to invest in advertising. They will be able to reach more customers in a day than a small company could reach in a year. It will come as no surprise when they announce that they have created the most popular anti aging face products.

It will come as no surprise when people start to report adverse or allergic reactions caused by their creams, supplements or foodstuff. Like other giant companies, they will use synthetic antioxidants, artificial preservatives and other man-made ingredients. They will be more concerned about bottom line profits than safety.

This is why we need the small companies, the organic farmers and the free-range produce. We need to be able to choose between the most popular anti aging face products and those that are actually the best.

Japanese Firms Face Penalties for Overweight Staff

December 31, 2010
By

Corporate Japan will join the country’s battle against bulging waistlines next month with the introduction of compulsory “flab checks” for the over-40s and penalties for firms that fail to bring their employees’ weight under control.

Health authorities hope the measures will arrest the rise in obesity among middle-aged men and slow soaring medical costs. All employees over 40 – about 56 million people – will be required to take the test to determine whether they are at risk of metabolic syndrome – symptoms associated with being overweight that, if left unchecked, increase the risk of strokes, heart disease and diabetes. Men with girths of more than 85cm (33.5in) will be given exercise and diet plans and, in urgent cases, told to see a doctor.

The health ministry estimates that 13 million Japanese suffer from metabolic syndrome, while another 14 million are at risk. Men are about 10% fatter than they were a decade ago, while women are more than 6% heavier. The ministry hopes to see a 25% reduction in the number of people at risk over three years.

According to reports, firms will be required to cut the number of overweight workers and their dependents by 10% by 2012. Those that fail to reach the targets face surcharges of up to 10% on contributions to a welfare fund for the elderly.

“If it can prevent even a small number of people from developing cardiovascular diseases it will be good news for them and their families,” Yuji Matsuzawa, director of the Japan Society for the Study of Obesity, wrote in the Asahi newspaper.

Ever-heavier Americans Face a Pre-flight Weight Test

October 6, 2010
By

Americans travelling on small aircraft will be asked to weigh themselves as well as their luggage for the next month in response to concerns that the nation’s growing girth may be jeopardising air safety.

The Federal Aviation Authority has ordered that passengers on small planes carrying between 10 and 19 people should be weighed in order to test whether the average weights the industry applies are still correct.

The FAA assumes that fully dressed adults weigh 82kg (12st 12lb) in summer and 84kg (13st 3lb) in winter – a figure that includes 9kg (1st 6lb) carry-on luggage and takes account of heavier clothing in winter. Children aged between two and 12 are assumed to weigh 36kg (5st 10lb) all year round.

But those assumptions were last revised eight years ago, and Americans have become significantly larger since then, with obesity among adults increasing by 60% over the course of the 90s.

Between 1999 and 2000 the number of obese children and teenagers grew by around 15%.

Travellers will be asked their weight or told to step on a set of scales. Given the likelihood that people will lie about their weight, airlines will add 4.5kg (10lb) to whatever figure they are told: “They usually lie in the single digits,” said Peggy Gilligan, the director of flight standards at the FAA.

Airlines could be forced to leave some larger passengers or baggage behind if the studies indicate that average passenger weights have increased substantially.

On larger aircraft such differences would be of minimal importance but heavy people on light planes can make a crucial difference.

Investigators from the FAA believe that flawed weight estimates could have contributed to a crash in Charlotte, North Carolina, earlier this month which killed all 21 people on board.

The plane’s flight data recorder showed that the aircraft suddenly started to rise at an angle of 52 degrees at take-off before crashing. They are examining whether an overload in the rear caused its nose to rise dramatically as the plane left the ground.

Soon after the crash, investigators asked airport staff if there had been any “large-statured people” among the passengers.

My daughter-in-law suffers from eczema on face, and it terrifies her that her daughter, my grand daughter will end up with it too.

Some forms of eczema, such as atopic dermatitis are hereditary, so she has a valid concern. My granddaughter is now seven and she has no signs of it yet, so maybe she will be spared, since many times it will show up in early childhood if it is going to be inherited.

This skin condition is intensified during stressful periods of ones life. Living our busy lifestyles with all its multitasking, everyone experiences stress and sometimes lots of it.

Also illness, hormonal changes, and infections can aggravate this rough itchy skin disease.

These dry patches can show up in many places, so don’t be surprised if eczema on face is not the only place you find this inflamed itchy skin.

Below is a list of natural ingredients that can help to soothe the symptoms and to bring about healing of the skin. Finding products that contain them gives an eczema suffer hope of eliminating the pain associated with the dry itchy skin.

• Babassu is a natural wax made from babassu oil. It has been used for centuries to soothe inflamed skin and to soften the rough spots. It gently moisturizes without leaving a greasy oily feeling.

• CynergyTK, a distinctive patented form of bioactive keratin, will help to reduce the redness related to inflammation of the epidermis. This product works extremely well as a moisturizer and even has the added benefit of stimulating your body to produce more collagen so you can get rid of wrinkles along with the dry itchy skin.

• Wakame, which is rich in B vitamins, also will help to sooth the inflamed skin associated with eczema.

• Avocado oil is a rich deep penetrating substance that has been used since early times. It helps to rejuvenate the skin and heal the dryness of skin diseases.

• Shea butter contains important vitamins and other nutrients needed to heal serious skin disorders like eczema, skin allergies and insect bites. It helps to soothe inflamed skin while it softens the dry itchy patches.

• Active manuka honey has many healing attributes. It rejuvenates and nourishes skin diseases so your skin tone will even out and look ravishing, instead of red and inflamed.

With regular use of the above ingredients you can win the battle of eczema on face and other parts of the body. To find the products I suggested my daughter-in-law to use that contains the above substances check out my web site listed in the bio section below.

Retinol is a form of vitamin A and is very essential as a dietary supplement. Due to numerous benefits of vitamin A when it comes to health and skin care, retinol is also not far behind when it comes to the world of cosmetics and beauty products. It is an essential substance for maintaining and producing cells, bone development and a healthy vision. Retinol is also loaded with antioxidant properties that are very useful for skin care and detoxification. Antioxidants resist skin damage and help in removing dead skin cells and making way for the newer and healthier skin cells. Due to the same, there is a huge significance of retinol in the field of acne prevention and removal. Retinol face creams are the best anti aging creams and are very good for facial skin care.

Benefits of Retinol Face Cream

Facial skin care ranks high in the list of beauty priorities for many people and why shouldn’t it be? There are many things that can harm the structure and texture of the facial skin. Culprits like ultraviolet rays, dust, heat, pollution and stress are a few to name, that simply ruin the softness of the skin and lead to many skin problems like acne, dry skin, rough skin, oily skin and wrinkles. In fact it is the safest to use a retinol face cream for acne, in case of a sudden breakout. To stop all this, there is a constant need of a good quality face cream that can provide maximum benefits and least side effects. Retinol face creams belong to that category. Read more on retinol for acne.

There are a lot of cosmetics that claim to be the best skin care products. In these times of utter commercialization, one finds a bit of relief in the form of retinol face cream. Retinol face cream improves skin appearance and makes the skin glow (this time, the real one!). Antioxidant properties in the retinol creams protect skin from cell damage, effects of aging like wrinkles, dark spots, etc. by controlling movements of the free radicals present in the blood stream.

Biggest benefit of retinol face cream is that it actually stimulates the process of repairing collagen and elastin that are present in the skin cells, without causing potential damage and irritation to the skin. A few other products that are present in retinol actually work wonders for the skin, when used in moderation and in correct formulation, over the affected area. It is very necessary to use retinol face cream in moderation and for a shorter period of time, strictly. Read more on wrinkle free skin care.

Retinol Face Cream Reviews

Utter competition amongst the beauty products and their various marketing strategies, leave us confused as a consumer. Hence, for the sake of convenience, here is a small list of the best retinol face creams that are popular amongst the consumers and buyers. This list has been compile with the help of retinol face cream reviews and are nowhere intended to promote and publicize the companies and the skin care products mentioned below.

Here are some of the popular retinol creams, used by consumers – ‘L’Oreal Advanced RevitaLift Face & Neck Day Cream’, ‘Chamonix Esotique Anti-aging Face Cream with Retinol’, ‘Retinol Face Moisturizer Organic Cream’, ‘Pro-Med Retinol Face Cream’, ‘Skin Ceuticals – Maximum Strength Refining Night Cream’, ‘Skin Food- Anti-wrinkle Cream for Face and Neck with Retinol and Dog Rose Oil’, ‘Dr. Jeannette Graf, MD Rejuvenation Retinol Bar Face Cream’, ‘Doliva Olive Intensive Cream’ with retinol and vitamin E, ‘Nicel Daily Repair Vitamin A Retinol Face Cream’, etc.

Retinol Face Cream Side Effects

We have talked a lot about the retinol face cream benefits. Now is the time to check for the possible retinol side effects. Flushed skin on which the retinol cream has been applied is the most commonly observed side effect of retinol. Redness of skin is also accompanied with irritation and burning sensation. Most of the times, this happens until the skin gets familiarized with the retinol face cream. As soon as one gets used to it, the reddening of the skin fades away.

Increased sensitivity to sunlight is also observed and hence it is better to avoid direct sun exposure just after application of the cream. Excessive application of retinol face cream is also not recommended, as it can result in redness and scaly skin. Excessive usage of retinol can show side effects that are similar to the vitamin A overdose. For people with sensitive skin, it is better to stick to natural anti aging skin care products so that there are minimum fallouts noticed.

Healthy diet, drinking plenty of water, a good exercise routine are some of the things that are naturally capable of treating most of the skin problems and effects of aging as well. In that case there is no need of any such artificial products, like the retinol face cream, no matter how effective it may be. Think about it!

Red Face after Running

Red Face after Running

“Hi, I’m Kathy and I’ve recently signed up for my school’s track and field team. Our training requires us to run a distance of 5 miles as part of endurance training activity. I have no difficulties about the running part, except for one. At the end of my run, my face reddens like crazy! It’s almost like a bright red cherry! Why is that so?”

“Hello there. My son Jeremy, is 14 and a little overweight for his age. I have noticed that whenever he’s back home after his daily game of football, his face is all red. Like a beetroot. Is it due to the extra pounds of weight? Or is there something wrong with him?”

“Hi, I’m Jim and I signed up with my neighborhood gym last week. Every day, I work out with a lot of heavy weights for about an hour. At the end of it, I look into the mirror to see whether my arms have gotten any bigger. But the only thing I end up noticing is my face. It’s red. Almost blood red. Like it’s about to burst or something. It’s scaring me man! Is everything okay with me?”

These were some of the queries that I happened to come across some time back, when I was casually surfing the Internet for information on running and jogging. I noticed that there was one single common feature among all these queries and stories. It was nothing but the ‘red face’. That awoke in me a natural characteristic sense of curiosity. So after doing a bit of research activity about running, training and resultant body metabolism behavior, here is all that I’ve learned about the phenomenon of developing a red face after running.

Red Face after Running
If you too, are left red-faced (pun unintended) after running, exercising or working out, then do not worry. This is a perfectly normal and common phenomenon. It is nothing to be alarmed or afraid of. There is a proper biological explanation (or in other words, a cause) for this physical condition, and the following paragraph will do the job of educating you about it.

Red Face Causes
It goes without saying that when we run or exercise vigorously, our heart rate increases significantly. Our rate of metabolism rises, and a lot of internal body heat is generated. Our body heat is directly proportional to our effort and the intensity of the physical activity. So as you put in mile after mile, or pedal away faster and faster, your body starts heating up from inside. Now it is important for the body to get rid of this heat and regulate a normal body temperature from within. This to a large extent, happens through the process of sweating. In addition to sweating, what our body does, is circulate the warm blood closer to the surface of the skin, so that the internal body heat can be radiated outside. Due to this, a large amount of blood collects near the face (in addition to a few other parts of the body). But since the face tissue has a lot of capillaries which are superficial (i.e. located close to the surface of the skin), the sudden arrival (and the collection) of this increased amount of blood is much more visible and noticeable (as compared to other parts of the skin). This is the one and only reason as to why you are left with a bright red face after running or heavy exercising.
Red Face When Exercising
Red Face Causes
This was a short explanation as to why people end up with a red face after running. ‘Red face relief’ is a matter of miniscule importance, simply because the redness will go away on its own, as and when the body cools down. You can always perform a few cool down exercises for the same. And while we’re on the subject of running, I think I might as well leave you with some useful reading material regarding running tips and techniques as I sign off. Ciao!

The New Face of Womanhood: NAPW!

May 13, 2010
By

It has been aptly said by Barbra Streisand that ‘Men are allowed to have passion and commitment for their work; a woman is allowed that feeling for a man, but not her work.’ Women’s dedication and enthusiasm towards her work or career is always questioned as the society always believes that she is incapable of providing the same amount of concentration on her home, family and work. Well, this is not true, as I strongly believe that a women is capable of multi-tasking and the vision she has for, she will definitely fulfill but the strong urge to succeed in life. With the good intention of uniting career-oriented women which will provide them a unique base to come together and exchange opinions, ideas and concerns was the thought behind the making of the National Association of Professional Women or NAPW.

The National Association of Professional Women has become the most successful association amongst women which is clearly showing tremendous progress and is proud to include professionals, executives and entrepreneurs from the various walks of life and who are associated with varied subjects. It is clearly astonishing that the members of NAPW are working at several fields and NAPW has been able to bring these diverse set of women together who are displaying their true value in the field of education, advertising, sales, marketing, manufacturing, publishing, entertainment, law, communications, health and medicine and others.

NAPW has emerged as a highly successful network service for the women in the different arenas of careers and provides the ideal chance of being able to communicate with each other on various issues and discuss ideas and opinions which are truly important for their own development on the intellectual and experience level.

The approach of NAPW towards its members is very sincere and clearly portrays the fact that the reason this unique portal has been introduced is not only as a common forum for the career-oriented women but also to be able to help these women with various educational tools and resources. Apart from the communications aspect of NAPW, the organization is keen to offer to these professional women folk financial products and services, seminars, keynote speeches, webinars, podcasts, and the knowledge and expertise to enhance the members’ professional development skills which will truly help them to emerge as victorious.

It is really astounding to find that the National Association of Professional Women has turned out into a huge organization and is currently regarded as the largest association of females on the professional level. The basic idea of the formation of NAPW was to encourage women to come forward and identify the forum as a safe and ideal place to communicate with each other not only with regards to their professional area but also on any areas of interest which includes social, economic and political areas and even as a medium to brain-storm ideas or exchange thoughts and plans and also to be able to discuss about personal issues and concerns.

NAPW is a huge success and will always remain so, thanks to the power of professional women who clearly identify with the uniqueness and resources of such a capable networking service.

A Short Summary On Face Masks

February 10, 2010
By

For thousands of years, women have used mud and clay to create masks that brighten and clarify the skin. Face masks can be used at least once a week, but generally no more than two per week, and they are ideal to use immediately after a steam treatment because the pores are open, which allows the mask to penetrate deeper. Today’s facial masks are generally made from a variety of dried, ground and powered ingredients that are moistened with water, or juice to form a paste. The mask should be left on your face for 20 minutes or more to ensure an adequate cleansing, nourishing and tonic quality. If masks are used more than twice a week, they can actually strip the skin of its natural protective oils–the exact opposite of what you are trying to achieve.

There are a variety of different masks made for a variety of different skin types. Oily and problem skin should use masks that have a generous amount of sulfur in them. A great mask you can make yourself for oily skin is to mix plain yogurt with a few drops of apple cider vinegar. Then, peel and mash up a lemon or mashed up strawberries, and add them to the mixture. Mature and dry skin types should use rich cream masks, those that do not set, because they provide more moisturizing benefits over other masks. To make your own mask for dry skin, use honey with apple cider vinegar and a mashed up avocado. Your skin will be smooth and supple.

To apply the mask, first make sure your hair is pulled back from your face. Many of masks are messy and can become quite drying which might harm or dry out your hair. Wash your face to remove any impurities, and keep your skin moist. Add a bit of water to the mask formula, and gently spread it over your face. Allow the mask to stay on your face for at least 20 minutes. Enjoy this time by relaxing with a book, or TV or meditating while you wait for the mask to draw out impurities.

After the mask has done its job, rinse your face with warm water and let your skin air dry instead of using a towel to dry it off. If you need to remove any residue that the mask has left, take a soft cotton wash cloth or towel, dab with water, and gently wipe off the remaining parts of the mask.

You can also make your own masks from facial scrubs you use for exfoliation. Just apply the scrub thickly and leave it on for 20 minutes. Make sure you choose a facial scrub that is made for your skin type. Simply moisten your scrub with a tablespoon or 2 of water, oil, witch hazel, or honey, until the scrub becomes easily spreadable. You can always add more liquid to the scrub, a bit at a time, until you achieve the desired consistency that works as a mask.
