America is Bulging – Americans Are Breaking Weight Records and Bad Health Records

America is bulging with fat not muscles. The number of overweight people in the U.S.A had increased by 60% in the twenty years before 2004. Also, the number of obese children had tripled in the thirty years before 2004. But just what is obesity? Well, when a man’s body is over 25% he is obese and when a woman’s body fat reaches over 30% she is obese. The fact is that America is the fattest country in the world because the percentage of overweight people in the U.S.A has steadily increased since the 1960’s. As more and more people got TV’s and they started eating more packaged and fast foods the epidemic began.

Though most people don’t think girls should have muscles large per se, healthy muscles are certainly good for the health of anyone. But the ratio of body fat to lean muscle in America is heavily leaning towards obesity. This is a contest that hasn’t a winner. The problem is so bad that Barbara J. Moore, Ph.D. is concerned that “half of all children well be overweight by 2020.” This raises health concerns of people routinely having heart attacks at the age of thirty.

An alarm like that should scare people into changing their sedentary lifestyle, if for no other reason than to be a good example to their children. It should compel people to get their children away from the computer and into the ball park, out riding bicycles in parks that have bicycle routes, out swimming, hiking, running, bowling and the list of active activities goes on.

Losing weight and keeping it off seems to be the real problem. Many people don’t have as big of a problem losing weight as keeping it off. Their bodies get comfortable with a certain amount of calories and changing that comfort level is difficult. The ways to lose weight are exercising, reducing calories and keeping them lower to maintain new weight. It helps to check food labels for the number of calories and keeping track of the calories you consume each day so you know how much you need to cut and to decide how to cut them. Other tactics are to climb the stairs instead of using the elevator (women should do this in pairs or groups for safety), walk from farther away in the parking lot, walk in place while watching TV, get people together to walks laps around the mall, join a softball league etc.

The scientific causes of obesity are five fold: genes, fatty foods, lifestyle, metabolic rate, and psychology. Some families have genes that are more prone to obesity, but with exercise and diet many people can control their weight, otherwise they can opt for certain medical procedures to help them. Obviously, to lose weight cutting out fast food and other fat laden foods is necessary. Coupling exercise with a low-fat, low-calorie diet is a helpful change in lifestyle to lose weight. Muscle is a higher burner of calories than fat. Muscles burn calories when resting. To get your muscles to partner with you in a weight loss program you need to do weight bearing exercise and just plan exercise to increase your metabolism. Many overweight people binge eat because of stress or depression. It is a vicious cycle and binge eaters may need counseling to help them.

Obesity is a national epidemic and a personal health issue that needs strict attention and effort put towards eliminating it by the individuals affected by its deadly grip. The obese person has to be responsible to change their state of being because it is very unlikely that food companies are really going to help you.

Breaking News: Common Sense Tips for Perfect Wedding Planning

Breaking News: Common Sense Tips for Perfect Wedding PlanningEnlarge Image

Planning a wedding is not easy! When you first begin planning a wedding, there are so many forks in the road, a multitude of decisions to make, and so many ways to go astray. At this amazing and crazy time in your life, take a minute to step back, relax and organize your thoughts. Get a grip on the project you have just undertaken, follow some seemingly simple steps, and planning a wedding can be a wonderful and memorable experience.

Establish a budget, stick to it and don’t deviate.

This is often a neglected characteristic of planning a wedding. It is essential to get your budget in order before making any financial decisions. Too often, many couples book a reception location or a wedding day professionals without solid financials in hand, only to find out they have overspent and are now bound by a contract.

Big tip: Use a number for the budget that is 10-15% less than what you actually plan on spending, so you essentially have a buffer when additional expenses arise, because they will. The great thing is that if you don’t use your entire buffer, you will have some extra spending money for your honeymoon.

Hire Wedding Professionals.

When your best friend’s second cousin volunteers to do be your wedding photographer, and promises a nice discount, it might be tempting to take advantage of the offer. However, a big word of caution – hiring friends and some cased family can often backfire. Expectations may not be met on the wedding day and friendships can become estranged. Additionally, these friends may not have all the necessary experience or equipment to complete the task effectively. You should hire wedding professionals for their experience, expertise, and resources. True professionals will assist in making your day hassle free. You hire them, you can direct them, and the relationship is not personal.

Compare apples to apples, not apples to oranges

Many times, when a bride begins a search for a reception location or for wedding vendors, she simply compares prices, not services or characteristics of the services. It is rare that you will find two locations offering the exact same “package,” or two videographers that offer the same quality of service (time and style) and amount of product (prints and albums). You need to carefully evaluate each aspect of the potential venue or vendor. What seems too expensive at first glance may actually be a better deal when you realize what it offers compares to others in the same category.

Be different – cookie cutter weddings are out of style.

Brides and groom continue to look for new ways to add personal flavor to their wedding day. Giving your wedding personal style does not mean doing the same thing your best friend did, or what you watched on Entertainment Tonight about Nicole Kidman’s wedding. Think out of the box. Hiring a wedding planner or event designer, even for a few hours, can help you be inspired and lead to amazing results. Instead of a guest book, have guests sign a coffee table book on a subject that is of interest to you. Learn an unexpected choreographed first dance, like the tango, and wow the crowd.

Surround yourself with the positive people.

When selecting a wedding party and asking other friends to be involved in the wedding, select people who have positive attitudes and those who, as Bill O’Reilly says are, “lookout for you”. Single girlfriends, your older single sister, even your brother may feel a tad envious of your engagement. For the most part, this is a passing phase, but that does not make it any easier for you to deal with. These people may often criticize your decisions, attempt to have attention diverted away from you with their own theatrics, or simply try to make themselves the focus of many decisions (the style of the bridesmaids dresses, what foods they like or dislike for the meal, or which date for the wedding is “better” for her schedule). If and when this situation arises, try your best to walk away from it and ignore it. Realize their behavior is not your fault, and if they must be included in the celebrations, have your mother or a trusted friend intercept the stressful dealings with these people.

Make your ceremony mean something.

The best way to do this is to write your own vows and/or select special poems, readings or Biblical verses. Even though the ceremony is really the only event that needs to take place on the wedding day, so many couples put little focus on the actual planning of the service itself. Is there a special song for you and your fiancé, perhaps the one that was playing the night you or he proposed? Why not walk the aisle to it and surprise your fiancé? Have you ever written a poem or love letter to your fiancé? Read it during the ceremony, or if nerves won’t allow you to read it yourself, have the Officiant read it for you. Look into your fiancés eyes during the ceremony and focus on the two of you and the life you are preparing together.

Create a timeline for the wedding day.

If you are not working with a wedding planner, it is your job to create a realistic timeline for everyone to follow. Detail and document all key elements and activities that are to take place on the day. Include addresses of locations and who needs to be where and when. If you do not do this, you take the risk of all the wedding vendors establishing their own agendas. Of course, consult with the ceremony and reception venue, as well as key vendors regarding the timeline, but ultimately most all of the timeline decisions are up to you.

Ask for help when you need it.

It is not uncommon for a bride or groom to become overwhelmed with wedding planning. It takes a lot of time, dedication and work. Typically there are many people knocking at your door anxious to help—your future mother in law, your mother, your sister, his sister, your best friend, your single best friend…the list can go on forever. When asking for help from friends or family members, give them specific instructions and deadlines. Also, make sure they know you still have final say.

When wedding planning consumers every aspect of your life, take a breather.

Schedule a date with your fiancé and go to dinner, take a walk, or just go for ice cream. There is only one rule—no wedding talk. Reconnect with the ones you love and then get back to the planning with your mind and heart focused on the right things.
Of course these are not the only steps to planning a wedding, but these are very important aspects of planning that will help you keep your sanity and your focus on the reason for this whole crazy thing, love.

Breaking Down The Glycemic Index

September 21, 2010
By

Initially found three decades ago on the School regarding Gta, the Index (GI) is used since the motivation for some regarding the current more popular diet programs. Basically, it’s the work with the Index to ascertain time it takes for several carbs to become broken down from the entire body. Ingredients with a high ranking about the List get quite a while to break lower, and therefore carry out much more harm to individuals with all forms of diabetes. Meals with a low rating on the Catalog are considered far better for several diets and for several persons, particularly those along with all forms of diabetes.

The body absorbs food with reduced scores about the Index list at a fairly slower fee. This allows the body to break straight down complex sweets in order to allow the body to use them in the better trend. Given that those with equally Type My partner and I as well as Kind 2 diabetic issues have problems with digesting sugars, consuming foods with low Catalog rating can show to be very good for their wellness. The majority of diabetes patients on the diabetic diet plan tend to stay away from all kinds of sugar and sugars completely, particularly seeing that their bodies have got issues with their digestion of food. There are even though, some options when it comes to carbs (carbohydrates) which have been considering acceptable choices for the diabetic person diet.

Good meals possess low rankings on the Glycemic index (low Index food). Usually, these food types still have sugars in a variety of ranges, however, these distinct carbohydrates are usually better to absorb, and considerably much healthier to consume. Many grocery stores carry meals that function as other options to higher found foods.

Included in the report on foods that have reduced Catalog scores are usually most vegetables and fruit. Despite the fact that fruits and vegetables will often be high in sugars, the actual sugar these people have tend to be broken down at a reduced rate as compared to other all kinds of sugar, offering useful vitamins and minerals to individuals with diabetic issues. So far as vegetables come to mind, the one which should be avoided inside the dreaded potato, since it provides a very high Index score. Melon is considered a good source of vitamin supplements and healthy and extremely lower in energy, nonetheless, its Glycemic index amount is seventy! It’s very an excellent source of organic sugar and also surges your blood sugar levels making your body to release insulin in order to combat as well as lower these types of amounts.

Whitened rice, whitened loaf of bread, as well as any food that are produced from sophisticated flour or perhaps sugar also needs to be ignored, as they also have got high rankings on the Catalog.

One of many reduced Glycemic index meals tend to be whole grain bread, vegetables, low-fat natural yogurt, soya milk, baked coffee beans and also brownish grain.

With regards to a successful as well as beneficial diabetic diet, it is not necessary to remove sugars entirely. It can be more essential to understand the huge benefits and issues connected with particular carbs to make the best choice. All forms of diabetes can be effectively managed; along with a diabetic diet that makes use of the particular Index is certainly 1 strategy which will help.

Record Breaking Swimsuits

FastSkin Line of Competitive Swimsuits from Speedo

The FastSkin performance swimsuit from Speedo made its debut ten years ago. On the other hand, its real impact was during the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. At Sydney Olympics, everyone who was anyone on the top-class swimming stage was spotted in one, and both experts as well as enthusiasts had a lot to say about this innovative performance suit.

Huge controversy has surrounded this competitive swimsuit, because previous world-record holders have claimed that their long-standing world-records were being broken unfairly by professional swimmers, who benefited from the advantages of the competitive swimsuit (it supposedly repels water much more efficiently when compared to the skin that provides a lot less drag).

On the other hand, supporters have complained that the FastSkin is only an inevitable and necessary advance in swimwear technology, and that it’s the athlete, not the swimsuit, who breaks the world-records.

Speedo has even made the line of performance suits available to the amateur enthusiasts. Even though it comes with a very high price tag ($150 and up for the short version and up to $250 for the full body-skin), it’s a standard piece of swimmer’s equipment that makes swimming much easier.

A great thing regarding Speedo body-skin is the fact that it acts as a corset of sorts – holding in loose skin as well as tightening up the body which can sport several extra pounds. The undeniable fact is that even the leanest of professional swimmers have skin folds that reverberate and increase drag during propulsive sprinting as well as flip turns, and this suit holds it all together in a cute aerodynamic package. Regardless of their physiological differences, both men and women can find the FastSkin beneficial in girdling their bodies for prime racing.

Because it is not inexpensive, amateur enthusiasts should think twice about getting a performance swimsuit that could end up hampering breathing capabilities. The sad fact is that the one and only way to find out if this suit is good for you is to try it on and check how it feels.

Innovative as it may be, some professionals will definitely find this suit to be constricting as well as frustrating, and some others will be stunned. Best of all, now even you can look just like your favorite world-record holder.

To find out more about FastSkin, please visit LZR Racer Elite.

R-Evolution Full Bodysuit from Arena

R-Evolution is a low-drag, stitch free, ultra-light bodysuit. This suit is best in their line of performance swimwear. The manufacturer claims to be the lightest, fastest as well as smoothest bodysuit ever made. The R-Evolution was introduced at the 2008 European Championships. This swimsuit definitely holds major appeal, from the years of research it took to get to market to the flattering contour-stitching. Look for it on professional athletes such as Milorad Cavic.

Breaking Your Pit Bull Terrier’s Jumping Habit: Dog Training Help

May 21, 2010
By

As you have probably already learned, Pit Bulls are highly energetic animals. They love to run and play, and get excited easily. One of the more annoying habits they develop at a young age is jumping. Jumping can be particularly annoying when they do it as a way of greeting, especially if it is young child or someone who is afraid of dogs. Teaching your Pit Bull to curb this behavior is not an easy task, but is your responsibility as a Pit Bull owner.

Many people have stopped their Pit Bulls from jumping on them by using treats. When they come inside, they throw some treats on the floor, and then greet their dog while his attention is fixed on the treats. The treats usually work as a good distraction to pull your Pit Bull’s attention away from jumping on you. If you don’t like using treats to train your Pit Bull, or if the method just doesn’t work well for you, then you have to try other ideas to train your Pit Bull not to jump.

One thing you can try is teaching your Pit Bull that it is nicer to sit than jump. Go outside, leaving your Pit Bull inside, then come back in and calmly greet him. If your Pit Bull starts to jump on you, turn your back to him, and ignore him. When your Pit Bull puts all four feet back on the floor, turn back around and pet him. If he starts to jump on you again, turn back around and ignore him. This will teach your Pit Bull that when he jumps, he doesn’t get any attention, but that if he sits nicely you will pet him. This technique may take quite a while for your Pit Bull to learn, especially if he is a very excitable dog. But, if you stick with it long enough, he should learn that jumping is not going to gain him anything other than losing your attention. Once you get your Pit Bull thru this step, try to teach him to sit still for a few moments before you acknowledge him. If he gets up, use the same routine of ignoring him, and then when he sits down, pet him again. This would also be a good time to try to teach him to shake hands when he greets people, rather than jumping on them.

You can also further entice your Pit Bull to not jump by tempting him and then rewarding and praising him for his good behavior. Hold treats up in the air so that your Pit Bull will have to jump to get them. If he jumps, ignore him, and when he is calm try again. When he is able to remain seated, praise him, give him the treats, and some extra attention. He will soon learn that by behaving the way you want him to, he will not only get extra attention, but some extra treats as well, which is double incentive for him to obey.

Another method that tends to work well in teaching your Pit Bull not to jump is to have a designated place for your Pit Bull, and teach him to go there when you need him to, for example, when someone is at the door. To start this training, you will need to pick the spot, and put maybe a bed or blanket and some of his favorite toys there. When the spot is ready, spend some time with him while he is there. Giving him special attention and treats will help him attribute the spot as a good place that he wants to spend time at. As your Pit Bull becomes accustomed to his place, start sending him there occasionally. At first, you will want to be close to the spot, and eventually move farther and farther away from it as your dog learns. Make it a point to give him special attention and treats each time he goes to his spot when you ask him to. Eventually, your Pit Bull will learn that by going to his spot when you ask him to, that you will reward him for it.

The biggest thing you can do to help your Pit Bull learn not to jump is to keep your own greetings calm. I know it is hard when you have been away from him all day not to come in and play and wrestle with him, but this will only get him more excited, and he will expect this same attention from everyone that enters the house. Until you can completely break the jumping habit, it may be best to ignore him for the first few minutes you come home, and then play with him once he settles down. It may take a little time, but your Pit Bull will soon learn how to tone down his excitement.

Live Healthy Without Breaking Your Budget

May 12, 2010
By

It is important to discuss how to avoid genetically modified foods first. It is a very strange world we live in where we don’t know if the food we are eating is genetically modified or not. Unlike in Europe, in the US and Canada food manufacturers are not required to label if their food is genetically modified or not. Whether it is safe or not is still controversial, just search in Google on the subject to see for yourself, and until it is proven safe it is best to avoid it.

Probably the easiest way is to buy food labeled 100% organic as the US and Canadian governments do not allow manufacturers to label something 100% organic if that food has been genetically modified or raised on genetically modified feed, however 100% organic food is often expensive. To clarify, if something is labeled as organic that does not mean that it doesn’t have any genetically modified ingredients; in fact foods labeled just as organic can have up to 30% genetically modified ingredients in it, so make sure it is labeled 100% organic. Some companies will label their products as non-GM which also says that they are not genetically modified, but it is rare to find products labeled as such. Another way is to use a website such as http://www.truefoodnow.org. Although this website is geared toward activism, they also provide a list of companies that do not use genetically modified foods.

We will start with bread. You hear how whole grains are healthier for you than other types. Did you know that 100% organic whole grain wheat bread tastes very close to plain white bread and costs only pennies more? This includes cooking flour. Baking a whole grain wheat cake will taste very close to the white flour cake, but is exponentially healthier for you. They also have whole grain rice and pasta, but those tend to be noticeably more expensive. As a side note here just because that bread is wheat instead of white, does not mean it is whole grain. Make sure your bread says whole grain on it.

Next we will discuss fish, chicken, beef and other meat. For poultry look for labels such as “free range” or other similar terms as such terms will be indicative of animals were not raised in cages all of their lives. Although the government only places regulation on the term “free range” for poultry, so other meats could just mean that the cages were bigger than the standard size. You will not notice a huge difference in price on meats labeled as such, however you will be eating much healthier food, food that was allowed to be raised as God intended. Beef is another story altogether. No matter how you look at it eating beef from your grocery store or restaurant is scary. All, and I mean all, of the beef sold at your grocery store and any restaurant is very unhealthy. If you want to find out more read this report of a cow’s story from birth to slaughter: http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2002/04/17/cattle1.aspx, it will probably ask you for an email address, I just used a fake one, like jake@aol.com … anyways I suggest you read this story to really find out what it is that you’re eating. Unfortunately there aren’t very many alternatives. The options for buying non-GM beef are in many cases more expensive. If you have a second freezer and are somewhat close to a farming community the least expensive way to get non-GM beef is to go to one of the local farms that don’t use Growth Hormone to raise their cows and those cows are pasture raised and you will find that these farmers will sell a cow at a price per pound that is very comparable to the grocery store price. This is usually done best when split with a couple of your friends, as buying a full cow on your own is going to be costly and it is unlikely that you can freeze 1200lbs of meat, unless you have 2 or 3 freezers.

Another way is to buy it online from a source such as http://www.grasslandbeef.com. The people at this site sell meat at a substantially higher price, however it is pre-packed, and shipped to your door within a day or two. We have tried these guys and the beef is very tasty and amazingly healthier. If you want to know more about the health effects of non-GM, pasture raised beef versus your grocery store bought meat study the importance of omega 3 versus omega 6 and compare the differences of these in the two types of beef. A final note on beef is health wise non-GM beef is better than GM beef, however also as important is what did the cow eat? Is it corn or grass? You will find that grass-fed or pasture beef is many times healthier and better tasting, than corn raised beef, yet again is more expensive.

Fish is another dilemma, not only is it an environmental issue that we won’t discuss here; the biggest reason for eating fish is its omega 3 content. Fish raised on growth hormones grows twice as fast, but contains nearly no omega 3 whatsoever, thereby defeating its purpose. Salmon is the biggest concern because its taste is considered the best among fish lovers, but it is by far the most GM bred fish out there. The fish you buy at your grocery store is almost certainly GM. There are ways around this, however. Many towns that are near waterways will have fresh caught fish for sale, sometimes even in your grocery store. If you live near a sea port, you have the biggest advantage, because you have a fish market that sells fresh caught fish at prices that are usually below what you may pay for GM fish at your grocery store, so by all means, take the drive down to port and get your fish there. Often times the least expensive way to get non-GM fish is to go fishing. Yes, get out that pole, some worms, and a fishing license and catch your fish. Many find it to be a great hobby to get away from the stress of life and relax in nature with fishing. For those of you who don’t have waterways or time to go fishing, a more expensive route is to use the site mentioned above, or ones similar to that and get your non-GM fish that way. Similar concerns and remedies apply to other types of meat such as pork, lamb, etc.

The next food is eggs and dairy. It is very common to find “free range”, non-GM or organic eggs and dairy even at your grocery store, especially if it is a local store rather than a chain one; however buying it from these places you will probably pay 3 or more times more than for their non-organic equivalents. The most inexpensive way to buy healthy eggs and dairy, other than raising the animals yourself, is to find local farms that will be willing to sell you the milk and eggs at prices that can sometimes be below that of the grocery store for the non-organic stuff. Of course this only applies to eggs and dairy, cheeses and other dairy you will likely have to pay a premium for as it unlikely that a farm would produce such foods. Sometimes a local co-op will sell these organic items at lower prices than your grocery store. One thing to consider with farm milk is that it will not have any preservatives, so usually your milk must be consumed within 2 or 3 days or it will start to go sour.

Fruits and vegetables are going to be a bit different. It is very unlikely that you will find non-pesticide, preservative fruits and vegetables at your grocery store. There are really only 3 options for getting healthy fruits and vegetables. The first option, and really your only real option for year round supply is your local co-op, but they will have them at a premium price. A great source in the summer and fall are the farmers markets. They will have healthy fruit and vegetables and for prices that will often time be lower than that of the grocery store. The last way is for you to go to these farms yourself. There are many apple, cherry, strawberry and raspberry farms/orchards that will let you pick the fruit yourself, and giving it to you at a lower cost as they do not have to pay for labor to pick this fruit. It is also a great way to get out of the stresses of the city and to get into nature and spend time with your family. At most of these orchards you and your family may eat the fruit to your hearts delight and this comes at no extra cost to you.

Finally I will quickly mention sweets, snacks and other such foods. The most important and most difficult thing to avoid in sweets is Corn Syrup and Hydrogenated Soybean. They are the least expensive, the most widely used and the most harmful sweeteners in our food. The highly genetically modified corn and soybean used in this sweetener grows at amazing rates. It is very cost effective for large companies and is found in over 90% of the sweet food we eat; everything from coffee creamer to cookies to butter and many, many, more; Nestle uses it in every single one of their products. However research shows that these two ingredients are the number one cause of the unnaturally overweight state of the American people. It has been linked to problems with heart disease, impotence, and cancer, however it is found in almost all foods. Why? There are many theories, everything from the Illuminati to money-hungry corporations not caring for the little guy. You can decide the reason for yourself as to why, more important is what do we do? You really have 3 options here; first is to cook it yourself. This is the most inexpensive way of creating these foods, albeit time consuming, but you control the ingredients. If you can afford it, buying their 100% organic, and I repeat it must say 100%, alternatives at your local co-op, or third is to avoid it altogether, often times these foods are unnecessary and can be avoided altogether.

Armed with this information it is now your duty to choose the healthy options for your family. Yes it is a lot more work, yes it will probably be more expensive, but is this really enough to stop you from doing all you can to preserve your family’s health? I urge you to rethink your habits, this often done best in a family meeting, and decide to live a healthy life.
