Easy Steps To Avoiding Gym Rage

Easy Steps To Avoiding Gym RageEnlarge Image

Have you heard about this recently? Many of us go through this at our local gym or fitness centre on a regular basis and are become increasingly frustrated. It usually starts as a group of trainees chat away their experiences of the day on a bench or at a piece of equipment for fifteen minutes while you are waiting to use it.

Or someone is standing directly in front of the barbell rack doing tiny lateral raises when you want to get at the really big weights. Or casuals using equipment favored by the regulars and often looked at like pieces of personal furniture for their own use.

All this builds up stress especially between the months of January and April when the newcomers hit the gyms and fitness centers in an attempt to lose the weight gained over the Christmas and New Year period.

In trying to realize their New Years resolutions they overcrowd the aerobics area and take over the weight room leaving weights lying around and causing queues for equipment.

Regulars of the gym experience these problems and tempers start to flare in a phenomenon becoming known as “Gym Rage”

During this testing time, all gym-goers, both new and experienced and the employees of the fitness clubs know that the newcomers usually only last until April and after that their good intentions run out. To help you through this stressful time have a look at and follow some of the hints below:

• Stand at the back of the aerobics class when you first start, as you will usually find the hard-core regulars will be down the front.

• Their are no rules that govern how many members a gym can sign up, causing some fitness centers to become overcrowded with everybody wanting to use them in the morning and afternoon on their way to and from work.

• So try to plan your visit to the gym a little earlier than usual or later in the day or evening. There is only one effective way to beat the January to April rush and that is to workout out late at night after 7.00pm

• Talking on your cell phone whilst you are working out, this will tie up a machine or piece of equipment for a long time causing problems. It’s recommended that you turn off your cell phone whilst at the gym.

• Don’t hog the machines; try not to go over the time limits set on the particular machine you are using. If there is a time limit please stick to it. The thing that annoys most people is the way people sit on a machine knocking out set after set.

• By performing one set to muscular failure and moving on will free up the machines for use by the next person.

• Wipe the machines down after use, try not to leave your sweat on the piece of equipment you have just used, use a towel to separate yourself from the machine while you make use of it and wipe it down thoroughly after use.

• Don’t drop the weights onto the ground and don’t clang them loudly as this is very off-putting to the other members. Make sure you return the weights to there correct place on the racks when you’re finished with them even though you might have found them lying on the floor.

• One thing you don’t want to do is constantly ask people if they’ve finished using a machine when they’re obviously still exercising on it. If anything the trainee will try to sit on it longer just to annoy you. Be patient; don’t interrupt them while they are lifting, wait until they finish their set first.

• A gym isn’t a social club don’t stand around in large groups chatting especially if you have a machine in use, do your talking in the locker room or at reception.

• Don’t leave your towel or other personal items lying around on a bench or piece of equipment if you are not using it. Leave your training space as clean as the way you found it. If the equipment is unattended for more than five minutes go ahead and use it, but be prepared to share also, let people work in with you if the difference in weight is not too large.

• Leave enough space around you so that other people can approach the weight rack and get the equipment they need.

• Don’t scream when you are going for that personal best lift, remember that the others around you are concentrating on their own work out to and don’t need to hear you screaming out for attention. Exhaling loudly as you contract the muscles during your set is fine.

• Don’t hog the water fountain, only take a few mouthfuls of water and then move away, don’t fill up your huge water bottle with cold water and leave warm drinking water for the rest of the members.

• Follow the gyms code of conduct usually seen on the walls of the gym or fitness centre, if trainees are not following the code report it to management don’t take it into your own hands.

Do yourself a favor and put these simple steps to use the next time you are in the gym and you will be in for a much more pleasant experience.

Avoiding The Complications Of Diabetes

September 8, 2010
By

Diabetes is the most common cause of new blindness. It is one of the major causes of kidney disease. It more than doubles the risk of heart disease and stroke.

Diabetes may lead to male impotence. It causes a person to have many more infections than normal, and it may make foot or leg amputations necessary. All of these are in addition to the usual out of control blood sugar level complications such as hypoglycemia, ketoacidosis, and hyperglycemia.

Not every diabetic will develop such complications, but he must constantly be alert for the warning signs of problems. The diabetic must have medical checkups quite often. Most likely, he will need considerably more medical care than the average person.

Thousands of people have diabetes without even knowing it. Many of them will only discover their diabetes when they go to a doctor for other problems. And they find out that the trouble with their eyes, feet or heart is actually a complication of diabetes.

If you have never been checked for diabetes, but someone in your family has diabetes, if you are overweight and if you are above the age of 35, you may be at risk. Don’t take a chance, go for a diabetes screening test or ask your doctor to check your blood sugar level.

If you know that you have diabetes, the best way to avoid or at least delay complications is to keep your blood glucose as close to non diabetic levels as possible. This requires staying in constant control of diabetes, testing frequently, exercising regularly, and eating wisely.

A diabetic who already has a complication may be able to prevent it from getting worse by staying in good control of his blood sugar level.

No one can accurately predict who will develop any of the complications of diabetes, but whether you are a gambling person or not, one thing is a safe bet, prevention is much better than cure. Living a healthy lifestyle with a good blood glucose control, proper diet, regular exercise, and no smoking will greatly reduce your chances of trouble.

With diabetes, life is even more of a gamble. Every day the diabetic has decisions to make, big decisions, little decisions. But every one of them makes a difference in how well the diabetes is controlled. And every one of them may be making a difference whether or not the diabetic will have any of the serious complications of diabetes later on.

If you look at smoking and lung cancer, a non smoker may still get the disease, while a heavy cigarette smoker may escape without even getting cancer. So it is with diabetic and all his efforts at maintaining good control. Even with the best efforts at regulating his life, he may still have complications. And a person who always seems careless about his diabetes may somehow escape without serious problems. Yet statistically speaking, looking at the law of chances, the person who is careful about his diabetes control has a much better chance of escaping the complications so common to the diabetic.

Don’t Touch Me There ! Avoiding Massage Mishaps and Misunderstandings.

It is the responsibility of the massage therapist to create an environment that is conducive to a healthy, relaxing and satisfying experience for the client. On the other hand, it is the responsibility of the client to communicate with the massage therapist in a manner that allows the therapist to provide the service in a manner that puts the client at ease. An experienced massage therapist will be able to guide the recipient through the massage process so that there is little confusion about some of the basic areas that cause embarrassment or confusion.

Take it all off ?

The amount of clothing worn during a massage is dependent on the type of massage being administered. It is normal to be completely undressed during a full body Swedish massage but is not absolutely necessary. If a client prefers to wear panties or briefs during the massage that is fine. Frankly, the client should be able to wear whatever makes them most comfortable. Regardless, the therapist will appropriately drape the client so that only the areas of the body being massaged are exposed. The therapist will usually instruct the client about what to expect before they begin undressing. The therapist will then leave the room and allow the client to undress and get comfortable on the massage table under a sheet or towel. The massage therapist will then uncover only the area of the body being massaged.

Touchy Feel

There are a variety of reasons that an individual may want a massage: stress relief, relaxation, general wellness, enhance circulation, improved flexibility, etc. No matter what the reason for the massage the therapist is always under the obligation to respect the boundaries set by the client and to establish his or her own boundaries.

Therapeutic massage is, by nature, a sensual experience. However, it is not intended to be a sexual experience. If a client, male or female, makes any overtly sexual requests or suggestions then the therapist is obligated to professionally and forcefully identify the inappropriateness of these comments. Conversely, no therapist should take liberties or make assumptions relative to what parts of the body can be touched. In general, it is never appropriate to touch the genitals during a massage session. The client cannot expect to be touched sexually and the therapist cannot touch a client in a sexual manner. Either case will betray the trust in the relationship between the two parties to say nothing of the potential for legal and ethical issues.

And let’s be clear. While there are documented benefits of breast massage, it is not, and should not be, included in a total body massage. Breasts are off limits unless a very special request is made of a qualified therapist. The National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork includes a specific policy in its Standards of Practice. The Board states that therapists may “only provide therapeutic breast massage as indicated in the plan of care, and only after receiving informed voluntary consent from the client.” That being said, breast massage is legally restricted in some states.

An experienced massage therapist, male or female, will know how to deflect sexual advances by a client. If a subtle response does not do the job then a forceful statement or ending the session will be the correct response. Any client who feels that they are being touched inappropriately should feel confident in their right to speak up. If it is incidental contact or just an accident the therapist will apologize and continue with the client’s discomfort noted accordingly.

Extracurricular Activity

As stated earlier, touch is intimate. Permission for such intimacy is accorded based on the massage therapist’s professionalism and the trust of the client. At the same time, a relationship is established a professional relationship but a relationship nonetheless. Understanding and honoring the boundaries of that relationship will allow both parties to fill their roles appropriately.

It is generally accepted that there ought not to be any personal relationship between the therapist and a paying client. Allowing the relationship to expand beyond the massage table to a social or even romantic connection is to invite a host of ethical dilemmas. A therapist could be perceived as taking advantage of a client who might be in a vulnerable state due to stress or physical ailment. In the state of Washington it is illegal to date a client within two years of the last session. That is strict stuff and is as likely to protect a therapist from misunderstandings as it is to protect a client.

Borders and Boundaries

Providing the healing power of touch is an honorable and ancient profession. The benefits of massage therapy are numerous and continue to gain acceptance as a mainstream health practice. No one should ever have to feel uncomfortable about getting a massage and they won’t if they are in the hands of a well-trained and ethically centered massage professional.

Lose Weight By Avoiding Alli

March 23, 2010
By

The weight loss industry is becoming massive as more people are starting to feel greater concern over their health. In addition, the media portrays overweight people in such a negative light, that the influence felt to be thin has become almost an obsession. It is perhaps not surprising then that the number of weight loss products showing up in the market has grown. However, whether these products are both safe and effective is debateable. One of the most well known over-the-counter (OTC) weight loss products that has been approved for consumer use by the FDA Food and Drug Administration is Alli.

At the moment, Alli is still one of the most popular diet pills on the market compared to most non-prescription pills but the questions remain: is it safe and is it effective?
In truth, Alli is not much different to Xenical, another weight loss pill, but the ingredients have been reduced because many Xenical retailers realize that their product can be dangerous to users.

A key ingredient in Alli is Orlistat, which works to help you block your fat intake. But you need to be very cautious because if you are prone to eating high-calorie foods, you can automatically trigger side effects. Even the manufacturers point out that you can’t expect extreme results just by simply taking Alli. The drug is only to be used to help you in achieving your weight loss goals, not to be responsible for doing all the work for you. They even state that following a strict low calorie diet and having a well structured workout routine is essential for success.

Side effects of Alli
The most noticeable side effects on the body while taking Alli are in the bowel movements. Many people develop an oily discharge that comes from the back passage when passing wind. While this isn’t painful, it can be embarrassing if you aren’t prepared, especially if the oil stains your clothing. Some users may experience diarrhoea or more frequent bowel movements, which are sometimes difficult to control.

The manufacturers also state that it may be necessary to continue taking Alli after losing weight to prevent the likelihood of putting it back on. It is a fact that many people regain weight when they stop taking slimming pills but would you really want to continue taking a pill with such unpleasant side effects?

So what’s the alternative?
Well, if you really want to lose weight easily and safely, the good news is that it can be done without the aid of Alli or any other slimming drug for that matter. Making some small lifestyle changes will help you to lose weight and keep it off. Adopting a healthy eating plan and doing a little exercise will bring you results that you’ll be amazed at. Most people take slimming pills because they want to lose weight quickly but that is the very thing that defeats them in the long run because once they stop taking the pills they put the weight back on. If you want to lose weight, aim to do it slowly and without slimming pills because then you have much more chance of keeping the weight off and you won’t be risking your health.

Think about losing between one and two pounds per week. While this doesn’t sound like much, I assure you it will soon add up. If you lose two pounds each and every week for the next 12 months, you will have lost over seven stones by the end of the year. In addition, having such a small weekly goal to achieve means you are more likely to be successful because it takes less effort. Two pounds a week is easily achievable with a healthy eating plan and a little exercise.
