The Most Effective Quit Smoking Aids

Tobacco is one of the most addictive drugs around. The fact that it is proven to kill thousands of people every year still isn’t enough to make people stop. And it is all down to the nicotine. When this is taken into the body it makes the brain release chemicals which make the user feel good. Take this away and you get cravings. To give yourself a better chance of stopping you should try some of these quit smoking aids.

In addition to these items the most important thing you need is will power. If you are not determined and focused then your chances are pretty slim. Think about why you want to quit and keep these reasons in mind, especially in the weaker moments.

The most well known of all quitting aids is the nicotine patch. This is just like a big plaster stuck to the skin, normally the arm. These reduce your craving for smoking by releasing small amounts of nicotine during the day and night, whenever the patch is applied.

Nicotine gum acts in much the same way as the patches. As you chew the nicotine is released into the blood stream. Many people find this a good way to stop smoking but others find that they become just as addicted to the gum itself. And as the gum can often cost more than the cigarettes, this may not be the best way to go.

More and more people are turning to medication these days. This seems to be more effective than the two previous methods. The drugs are designed to help you control the need to smoke. And at the same time they reduce the effect of withdrawal symptoms that most people find too much. If you find it too hard to quit, these drugs should also reduce the pleasure you get from smoking.

Hypnosis is a more recent form of treatment. For some it is completely effective, removing the craving forever. But others seem to get no benefit at all. It works by altering the attitude about smoking, makes it seem trivial and easy to give up. There are self hypnosis guides on this but it is much safer to let a professional carry out this technique.

Working in the same way as the prescribed medication are herbal remedies. These herbal supplements might not be as effective but they are completely natural which is important to some people who are worried about side effects. You may want to try this option first, and if you still find it too hard then maybe go to see your doctor about getting a prescription.

There are other methods available but these are considered the most effective techniques. Whether they work or not for you is really down to how much you want it. Hopefully one of these methods will give you the extra push you need to finally quit for good. You could even try a combination of some or all of these. Remember to stay strong and keep focused on your goals.
