The Memoir of Our Love: Chapter 1

Father was rushing me, the bus that picks up all of staff for Camp Cooleg would be here in three minutes to pick me up. And yet I still wasn’t completely ready. He doesn’t see it from a sixteen years old girls point view. First impression means everything. There was no way I would leave the house looking like a bum.

I sure didn’t look like a bum today though. I put my finishing touches up in my hair placing the bow in the middle. I think I looked cute. I had two pig tails. I wore short shorts, a plaid button up belly shirt and my favorite cowboy boots. I ran down the stairs as I was greeted by my mom and father waiting for me at the door with my bags in their hands.

“Oh baby you look so lovely. Your going to break some hearts down there.” My mom said as she gave me a hug and handed me a bag. I got my looks from my mother. I Have dirty blonde hair and green eyes. Im kind of petite, I’m 5′4″ and slim and slender. I said bye to my father as I grabbed my other bag and ran onto the bus.

I was only the third stop it. This would be a long ride.

1 hour later

The camp was nothing like I expected. It was absolutely gorgeous. It was filled with eight to twelve year old boys and girls. Each one with a different personality. As soon as we arrived we were sent to the office to find out what our summer jobs would be in the camp grounds. I was assigned to the boating area. I had to monitor kids on the canoes and teach thm how to use it. This would be fun. The girls and guy staff were separated and they showed us over to our cabins. I shared a cabin wit 5 other girls.

“Hi my name is Emmie. Is this any of your first year working here?”

“Its not mine but for the rest of yous I know it is seeing by what your wear.” The red head in the far back said. Her name was Ruthy and of course at first she seemed like a total bitch but she was far from it.

We all choose our beds and went over to our stations for the day. I shared my station with Chase and Linda. They were the most funniest people at Camp Cooleg. And apparently they’ve been a couple since last summer when they met. How cute.

I helped a little boy put his life jacket on and get into the canoe.

“Now you be careful. Okay? Both legs must remain in the caneo at all times. If they come out yu will be punished for endangering yourself understand?” I asked the young boy.

“Yes ma’m” I pushed him away from the dock as he started to paddle. This job had to be one of the most easiest to do. I walked over to Chase and Linda interrupting them in what deep discussion they were having.

“Hey Emmie you got anyone special in your love life?” Linda asked.

“Nope imma virgin to relationships never had a boyfriend in my life.” They both just stared at me with blank expressions.

“Well nows the time to start. We got a new life guard. His name is Alex and….”

“And what?” I asked interrupting her mid-sentence.

“And he’s sixteen and SINGLE.” The last Alex I knew was absolutely gorgeous. However I hadn’t seen him since I was ten. He had brown eyes with long black slicky hair. It would be amazing if the new life guard was the same Alex I met for only one day but for some reason I can’t forget him.

The rest of the day until our lunch break was pretty much the same. I decided to explore the camp ground during my lunch break. On my walk I found a stream and decided to eat my lunch on a rock in the middle of the stream.

The sound of the waves were peaceful. I could hear the russling of the leaves and the sound of water against the rocks. It was soothing, I closed my eyes and leaned my head back. My break wouldn’t be over for another ten minutes. The strands of my hair that had escaped my pigtails blew in the wind. This place was beautiful. I must of sat there for five minutes nothing good go wrong.

All of a sudden I was disrupted in my peace as someone cleared there throat.

“Excuse me do you mind if I join a pretty lady with her lunch.” He was gorgeous he had brown eyes and long slick brown hair. He looked like he was 5′9″. Alex?? I thought. This couldn’t be possible. “Well?”

“Oh my, I’m sorry um of course.” I moved over as he took a seat next to me on the rock. He was muscular. Not to big, but just right.

“You haven’t changed one bit Emmie.” He said as he looked into my eyes.

“Pardon me?” I asked.

“Its me Alex. Ten years old, picnic, does it ring a bell?” It was him. The only guy I had ever liked. The guy I thought I would never see again and he was sitting right next to me.

“ALEX!” I gave him a huge hug as he giggled from my excitement. ” I can’t believe its you. Wow. You haven’t changed that much either. I mean look at you, your …” I caught myself. I can’t believe I was just about to say he was gorgeous he looked deeply into my eyes waiting for me to finish my sentence. But I didn’t I just giggled and lookd down at the water.

“I’m what?” he asked.

“Nothing.” I replied simply.

“Well if I may say so myself your stunningly beautiful Emmie.” I looked up from the water and smiled at him. He was flirting and doing a job job at it if I may add.

“Thank you.” He looked at me and didn’t say anything. I didn’t speak either. We just sat there in silence. . . Well not quite. A few moments later my watch alarm went off letting me know that my next shift was about to start. ” I’m sorry I have to go.”

“Will you be at the staff barn fire tonight.” He asked grabbing my hand as I began to walk away.

“Only if you will.” I said he smiled and let go of my hand.

I was looking forward to tonight barn fire and spending time with Alex.
