<p>Here is a story told to me by friend, Al, who is one of top EMTs in the Atlanta area. During his training there was this OBESE lady of over 800 pounds that would invariably call 911 every week. Needless to say when you are that big and slip down you ain&#8217;t getting up by yourself! </p>
<p>So they would have to first take out the regular gurney and put in the reinforced one so they could transport her to Grady Hospital in Atlanta. They would have to add extra personnel too. Off they would go to her place to see what they could do. After loading her up in the ambulance she would be transported to Grady. </p>
<p>What do you think is the cost of transporting anyone to Grady? Al told me that the average cost is $750! Then you add on the emergency room visit and any meds they had to give her and I assure you that you way over $2000! </p>
<p>So what happens when the current health proposal becomes law in her case? As I remember she has diabetes and heart disease &#x96; no big surprise there! So they will NOT be able to turn her away based on PRE-EXISTING conditions which I happen to agree with. </p>
<p>HOWEVER what happens when you take someone like her and extrapolate that across the USA? People who have not previously taken advantage of the trips like she has done will definitely do so from now on! </p>
<p>You don&#8217;t have to be a rocket scientist to see where this is going! Remember Supply and Demand? Now we have a crushing overload on the hospital system with people like this lady who really does not have an emergency. So when a life and death car accident victim comes into Grady in the future as it is one of the finest trauma centers in the country how long will that victim have to wait? HOURS! Too much DEMAND and not enough physicians and nurses to handle the caseload! </p>
<p>And according to what I have been hearing from physicians they are going to seriously look at other avenues to earn revenue. I know physicians that have quit practicing medicine that are making boat loads of money marketing medically related products like the bio-magnetic Nikken products. They don&#8217;t have to worry about paying EXORBITANT malpractice expenses or overhead. Of course it does lead to unemployment of the staff. </p>
<p>So if this bill passes what is going to happen to the wealthy and even middle class patients seeking medical procedures? I know the answer to that because I&#8217;m helping with the marketing of the solution. It is called Medical Tourism. My good friend, Dr. Uday Kumar MD, of India and I are preparing to have a flood of people going to India for their operations. I have learned a lot about India&#8217;s Medical Tourism. First their physicians are very highly trained in the United States in many cases. Second, they have EXCELLENT bedside manners and really CARE about their patients! Imagine that! Third even with round trip airfare to India along with the best medical procedures in the world you could pay up to 80% LESS for the experience! There are numerous cases where open heart surgery and airfare was not over $7500! Finally while visiting India you can also tour the sites! </p>
<p>President Obama, do you think that it is HIGHLY possible that the current young Indian physicians that you see at places like Grady will now decide to return to their country just like my friend Dr. Kumar has done? He was going to do his residency AGAIN for 18 months since we don&#8217;t recognize his previous medical experiences in India. Now he is returning to India. </p>
<p>So how many American born students will decide to practice here under socialized medicine? I would put my bets on not many since going to medical school is quite expensive. I would think they just might go off to India to study with these highly qualified physicians who have trained in the United States at Princeton, Harvard, Duke, etc. </p>
<p>So President Obama if the Americans go there and stay there who is going to take care of the new Demand if there is a LIMITED Supply of physicians? Again it goes back to Supply and Demand! </p>

The most identifiable hip bursitis symptom is, of course, burning hip pain whose intensity and characteristic is different in every individual case. There are mainly two different types of hip bursitis. One is trochanteric bursitis and the other one is ischial bursitis. In trochanteric bursitis, the pain is felt at the side of the hip. On the other hand, pain due to ischial bursitis is experienced at the base of the hip near the buttocks. A unique characteristic of hip bursitis pain is that it gets aggravated after walking long distances or while climbing up a slope surface of hill or stairs. The pain is accompanied by localized swelling and stiffness. It can stiffen the joint so badly that the range of motion of the joint often gets badly affected. It becomes severe when you try to get up from a sitting or lying position. Sometimes, one can hear popping sound while flexing the affected hip or pulling the leg. </p>
<p><b>Hip Bursitis Treatment</b><br />
Hip bursitis is diagnosed with the help of a series of laboratory tests including x-rays and MRI scan. Doctors first advise patients suffering from hip bursitis to give sufficient rest to the hip joint so that the bursa gets scope to heal. You have to modify your lifestyle in order to minimize hip movements. You have to avoid using stairs temporarily. While sitting, you have to use cushioned chair. If your sleeping position aggravates the pain, then it has be changed too. </p>
<p>Resting should be accompanied by cold compression. It helps to bring down the joint inflammation by constricting the blood vessels of the region. You can pack some crushed ice in a plastic bag or use frozen peas for this purpose. Wrap up the ice pack in a piece of cloth and put it on the affected joint for 15 minutes. It should be applied 3-4 times in a day. You should continue to apply ice regularly till the time the pain and inflammation subsides. </p>
<p>Doctors prescribe non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) to provide temporary relief from hip pain. If the pain is severe, then corticosteroid injection are administered directly into the inflamed bursa. This can give an instant relief from the pain and its effect last for quite some time. If there is an infection in the bursa, then it has to be treated with suitable antibiotics. Sometimes, doctors may prescribe this medicine just to prevent any infection. </p>
<p>As the pain and stiffness goes down a bit, doctors recommend physical therapy. It includes massaging of the soft tissues in order to ease off the stiffness and hip bursitis exercises under the supervision of a physical therapist. The exercises involves some simple hip bursitis stretches that can add strength to the muscles and tendons of the region. </p>
<p>If a large amount of fluid gets accumulated inside the bursa cavity, then it is removed by the doctors with the help of a needle. In some worse cases, where non surgical hip bursitis treatment fail to cure the problem, doctors opt for surgery to remove the bursae or a section of the hip bone. </p>
<p>Hip bursitis can be prevented to a great extent by minimizing the pressure on the hip joint. For this, you must wear shoes that provide enough support to the hip joint. While exercising, make sure that you are standing on a leveled ground surface. Those who are overweight must lose some body weight. </p>

<p>The truth is that overweight and obesity have long been seen as a moral or aesthetic failing. Gluttony, after all, is one of the seven deadly sins of biblical notoriety. But the causes of overweight in today&#x92;s society are a lot more complex than they were in biblical times.</p>
<p>Think about it. Back then, the physical requirements of everyday life &#x91; including just getting a meal together &#x91; were such that most people achieved an appropriate energy balance just getting by, day to day. That is, they burned about what they took in, and didn&#x92;t need to count calories or watch their carbs or worry about dietary fats.</p>
<p>In fact, it probably took some special indulgences to eat enough to get overweight. In a world where starvation or malnourishment was a far bigger risk than obesity, an overweight person might well be suspected of undue indulgence.</p>
<p>But we are not living in that world. The world has changed much, and so much in just the last few generations &#x91;with industrialization, mechanization, transportation, and marketing&#x91; that our progress has outpaced our ability to even recognize all its ramifications.</p>
<p>When Ray Kroc applied assembly line principles to burgers and fries at McDonald&#x92;s in the 1950s, who imagined that this convenient new dining would be, in just a couple generations, directly linked to an epidemic of obesity in America&#x92;</p>
<p>And it is an epidemic. Two-thirds of Americans are now overweight, one third are clinically obese. How can such numbers be attributed to a moral failing, to mere over-indulgence&#x92; Particularly when so many among that number have been overweight since childhood, and so many children are among that number now&#x92;</p>
<p>Obesity is a medical problem, a public health problem. It does have behavioral aspects, but as more attention and resources are devoted to considering all its aspects, we learn every day how multifaceted and complex it really is.</p>
<p>Yet studies show that even medical professionals, who really should know better, are subject to the same negative stereotypes society in general assigns to overweight people: that they&#x92;re lazy, sloppy or undisciplined.</p>
<p>So is it any wonder that overweight people are sensitive about how their weight is characterized and referred to?</p>
<p>For instance, the word &#x91;obese,&#x92; is really just a medical term, and a doctor might reasonably use it when talking to a patient about a weight problem. It defines a person who is 20 percent or more above the expected weight for their height. Typically, people with a body mass index of 30 or more are considered obese. And that&#x92;s all it means, nothing more.</p>
<p>But the negative connotations the word carries are so entrenched in the public psyche that the simple medical meaning is lost.</p>
<p>The Pennsylvania study on weight terminology quoted one female participant who had a BMI of 38. &#x91;I&#x92;m not obese,&#x92; she said. &#x91;That&#x92;s for people who are really fat. It&#x92;s gross.&#x92;</p>
<p>&#x91;Gross&#x92; is a value judgment. &#x91;Obese&#x92; is medical definition. But try telling that to her, or to any of the other overweight Americans whose body size is so often regarded &#x92;even by them&#x92;as a reflection of their character.</p>
<p>Doctors need to know how patients hear these words, because if some emotional trigger causes the patient to tune out, the rest of a critical health message could be missed.</p>
<p>So the study set out a number of terms, many very similar, that a doctor might use in a discussion with a patient who was 50 pounds overweight, including &#x91;obesity,&#x92; &#x91;weight problem,&#x92; &#x91;excess weight,&#x92; &#x91;large size,&#x92; &#x91;heaviness,&#x92; and simply &#x91;weight.&#x92; Subjects in the study were asked to score them as desirable or undesirable along a range.</p>
<p>The simple term &#x91;weight,&#x92; without any adjectives attached, was far and away the most preferred of those offered. The next favored terms, &#x91;excess weight&#x92; and &#x91;BMI,&#x92; weren&#x92;t even close, but still scored as desirable terms. Everything else was considered undesirable, with &#x91;obesity&#x92; among the worst. </p>
<p>The research aimed at educating doctors to help improve &#x91;bedside manner.&#x92; When getting heard can be a life or death matter, good doctors learn to tailor the message. They can&#x92;t afford to be offensive, even unintentionally, because critical medical guidance could get lost in a tangle of hurt feelings. </p>
<p>But there are important things that other people may need to say, too, and no one wants their words to obscure their message. Research like this helps us all communicate not just more considerately, but more effectively.</p>
<p><b>THROUGH THICK &#038; THIN </b></p>
<p>While some size-acceptance activists are calling themselves fat and large-sized to try to remove the stigma by embracing these terms, most people aren&#x92;t yet going along. Research shows that if what you want is not to hurt, but to be heard, non-offensive, non-confrontational terminology is best. </p>

<p>The life insurance industry is becoming tougher on smokers and those of us who are overweight.</p>
<p>When an insurance company calculates its premiums, it has to work out the risk of you dying whilst the policy is in force. (Or with Critical Illness Insurance, the risk that you will become critically or seriously ill during the policy&#8217;s term.) In this context, smoking and obesity have become increasingly important issues.</p>
<p>The life insurance industry pointedly ignores the views of some Pro Smoking Pressure Groups which argue that smokers under the age of 40 have around the same probability of dieing as non smokers. David Pickett, Life Insurance Manager at Sainsbury&#8217;s spoke for the insurance industry when he confirmed &#8220;Health risks associated with smoking can have a big effect on life cover costs. It is vital for those who have kicked the habit to review their policies&#8221;.</p>
<p>Just how big an effect smoking has on life insurance costs was highlighted in a recent snapshot study by www.express-life-insurance.co.uk. This found that the average smoker paid 56% more than a non-smoker. The study was based on nine of the UK&#8217;s top insurance companies and examined the premiums quoted for two men aged 30 asking for &#xA3;100,000 cover over 25 years. The only difference between the application details was that one was a smoker and the other wasn&#8217;t.</p>
<p>The life insurance industry has also recently tightened its belt on the overweight members of society. Previously, only people with a Body Mass Index of 33 or more were considered as overweight. This level has now been reduced by 16%. Now anyone with a BMI of 28 or more is likely to face premiums loaded by 50%. If you&#8217;re anxious to know whether that includes you, you&#8217;ll need a calculator! BMI is calculated by dividing your weight in kilos by your height in meters and the result squared.</p>
<p>So if you&#8217;re intending to apply for life insurance is may be as well to loose a few pounds first &#x96; oops kilos &#8211; and they&#8217;re much harder to lose than pounds!</p>
<p>It&#8217;s not quite so straightforward for smokers. To qualify as a non-smoker, most insurance companies insist that you must not have &#8220;smoked or otherwise consumed any form of nicotine products during the previous 12 months.&#8221; Indeed, some companies go further and extend the qualifying period to 5 years!</p>
<p>Because premiums for smokers and chubbies are so high, it becomes even more important to seek out the cheapest possible prices.
